If you need to ask "how", you should take it to a qualified professional technician. Or, $30 is the price for an external CD/DVD-writer that connects via USB.

Or, read: http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/product?product=499847&lc=en&cc=us&dlc=en

for "how-to" information on your notebook computer.

I need to know how to remove a DVD drive for a HP lap top.

If your HP Pavilion DV6000 series laptop computer has a bad DVD drive, use the following steps to replace the drive

Purchase a new DVD drive to replace the old HP drive. You can use any slim DVD drive with a 50-pin ATAPI IDE Interface Connector. You will probably want a DVD burner since the original drive was capable of burning DVDs. The drive I used to replace the HP drive is a LG Black IDE Super-multi Slim Notebook DVD Rewriter - OEM version.

Unplug the power cord from your HP laptop. Remove the laptop battery from the back of the computer. This will eliminate the chance of power damage to your computer

Ground yourself by touching a metal object or touch your screwdriver on the ground while touching part of the metal. Unscrew the DVD drive screw circled in the Step 2 photo. Using a small Phillips head screwdriver turn the screw counter-clockwise until it is completely loosened. You may need to flip the computer over to get the screw to fall out. Put the screw in a safe location for later.

Put a small pointed tip object (a paper clip will also work) into the drive release hole on the face of the DVD drive. Use the hole to pull the drive out from the laptop body.

Remove the mounting bracket from the old DVD drive. There are two small Phillips head screws that need to be removed by turning them counterclockwise. Match the bracket up with the holes on the side opposite of the connection port. Using the two screws you just removed, secure the mounting bracket to the new DVD drive by tightening them in the clockwise direction.
Remove the original HP DVD drive face plate from the old drive. It can be removed by working it back and forth to loosen the faceplate. Once it is loose you should be able to pull the faceplate off.

Do the same for the new drive. Once the DVD faceplate is off, match the tabs of the original HP faceplate up and press in until it clicks into place

The new drive is now ready to install into the HP DV6000 series laptop. There is no need to hook up IDE cables and power cables. The new drive can simply be slid into the HP laptop.

Find the screw from Step 3. Make sure the DVD drive is pressed in all the way. Install the small Phillips head screw in the back of the laptop and tighten by turning clockwise.

I cut the cable to my dvd drive in laptop ,how do

You will have to get a new one.
I did accendently did this when I was trying to fix the drive in my Dell Inspiron 2200.
What happened on mine:
1. Over time, my laptop's dvd drive was getting harder and harder to open.
2.One day it didn't open at all but the paperclip thingy didn't work, so I had to use my pen knife but that snapped the cable.
I had to get a new one from ebay.

My DVD-CD drive doesn't appear when I try to use it. When I stick a CD or DVD in the drive it doesn't respond. It's as if it just disappeared. I've tried system recovery and get results but the drive still...

Under your laptop there is a small screw holding the DVD drive in place remove the screw and take the DVD out of the laptop turn on the laptop, then turn it off again, put the DVD drive back in and secure with the screw
then when you trun the laptop back on it should say windows has found new hardware and then it will reinstall the drivers

My acer 5315 laptop dvd does not work, when i put a dvd says unable to detect a dvd device on your computer.

Does it read CD's..? Does it only fail on DVD's?

Try installing new firmware, try physically reseating the DVD drive. Try unistalling and reinstalling the device through Device Manager.

If everything fails still, then you have a bad DVD drive and will have to get a new one.

Troubleshooting helps......

Cd dvd drive

Yes its easy to repair / replace the laptop drive. I'm in the UK and charge £30 for a replacement CDRW/DVD and £45 for a DVDRW A new laptop would cost about £300 depending on the make and model. Keep green and get the item repaired.

I hope this is useful please rate the solution as we depend on your feedback.

Cd/dvd rom

I am presuming that you have the correct driver for the DVD, and nothing else has changed (no new DVD software that might cause this problem by addressing the drive improperly). Nero and Power DVD can both cause problems if your DVD is newer than the software version.

Now, all that out of the way, here is the diagnosis. DVDs are much higher density than regular CDRoms. DVDs average 4.5 gb, whereas a CD is caped at 0.7gb (700mb). Thus, DVD drives have very low tolerance for ANY kind of error. Therefore, DVD combo drives are not likely to last as long as the rest of the laptop's hardware. Shock at relatively minor levels can damage a DVD drive. Often, they will still open a regualr CD, but fail to read a DVD directory. Your error code, if it is posted at startup, indicates the drive is malfunctioning. You can test it easily. Usually there is only one screw that holds it in (underneath the laptop, about 4 inches from DVD tray cover, towards the center). Turn off laptop, flip it over on a towel, and remove that screw. Tuurn the laptop over again, then insert a straigtened paper clip into the small hole in the DVD tray face. Be careful to push lightly and STRAIGHT in with this paper clip and the tray will pop open. Pull gently, and the whole DVD body will slide out. With a new or used replacement DVD or CD, reattach any hardware on your old DVD to the new one, then slide it back into the laptop 9no need to install screw just yet) Start laptop. If error is gone and DVD plays OK, insert the screw again and make your old tray cover fit the new drive (always can be done if you look closely to find the tabs and remove it gently). Sometimes some plastic will need to be trimmed with an eExacto knife to get a good fit.
