Look carefully on the left hand side. All the paper from those trays pass up the left. ( you probably know that) The last time I worked on one of those machines paper feeding up from those trays can get stuck you've got to investigate where the paper is stuck coming up from the trays. Open the left door and very carefully see how far the media has traveled, does the lead edge get damaged, dented or spoiled in any way. ( look closely there) don't just rip out the paper, investigate why. Just how far has the media moved from the tray selected. I suspect a torn bit of paper stuck inside. If your machine is difficult to get to you must make room to look properly with a torch if necessary. Pull out trays 1 & 2 fully so you can look without being hindered. Good look!

You mite want to check the manual bypass tray located on the rightside of the copier below the side door, looks like a step!!!! The rollers maybe dirty or the something stuck in it. if printing to the copier and asking for the bypass tray recommended that you send the print job over to the machine first then place the paper in the tray when the machine indicate to replenish paper in the bypass tray. It is important that when using 81/2 x 11 papaer that you look at the little icon on the operator screen to see weather to place the paper on the bypass tray in potrait or landscape paper will jam if not seated properly.
Hi there!
The compatibility of the paper may affect the issue that you are having. I have a brother printer also and prints on 4x6 size what i can suggest is to try turn the photo paper upside down, so facing the tray, 2 sheets at the bottom should have the glossy side up. and the sheet where you need to print the photo should be facing down. So when the paper roller grabbed the photo paper at the top it will smoothly pass thru,
Hope this helps!

Someone has told the machine to either make a copy or print from a PC to the Bypass feed tray on the copier. If you are not trying to print something by using the bypass tray then just turn the machine off, then on again to clear the request from the copier. If you are trying to print or copy from the bypass tray then simply insert the correct paper size and direction into the bypass tray slot and the machine should automatically begin printing.
Good Luck and Thank You for using Fixya.
Check to see if the actuator arm is stuck in the bypass tray, therefore not seeing the paper and be sure the side guides are up against the paper. If that doesn't work and you have 2 cassette cavaties put the 11 X 17 where the other tray is . Hope it works for you.
Problem isn't "solved", but have realized that the issue is related to the fact that the document I am trying to print is formatted for envelopes. When I print a regular word document (letter) it prints fine to the Bypass tray. It must have something to do with the fact that the document is 1000 envelopes. If I print to a PDF file, then print the document to the Bypass Tray I don't seem to have a problem.
