I ran out of all the color cartridges, but I have a black cartridge installed that is about 85% full (and shows on the LED screen that it is full). It is still saying "replace supplies" though. How can I get the printer to just print with the black cartridge?

Re: Need to print with black cartirdge only.
Just try to print a black and white, you can do that when you print a document. There is a window that will pop up about to print, click on properties just beside the ame of your printer and go to paper/quality bar menu there you should see a choices between color and black&white. Just choose black & white and try printing.

Usualy white lines are a signal for you that is time to replace a toner cartirdge. Your machine may inform you that you need to replace a toner cartridge, but sometimes the toner levels are low and the machine doesn't indicate that. Another thing that you may try is to clean all toner cartridges using each corona wire. If you need to replace your toner cartridge check this easy and helpful way to replace toner cartridge.
No..! you need to install the black cartridge..!
The printer needs to be aligned with both the cartridges no matter if they are empty or full. So even if the black cartridge is empty and the color cartridge is full. The color will print and the black wouldn't.
But if you install only one cartridge it will not work as i said that the printer could not align to the cartridges unless both the cartridges are installed.
On some printers if you install the black one only it works. Without installing the color one. But on this printer It is mandatory to install both the cartridges together other wise it will give you error codes.
This model needs the cartridges to be aligned and then print and if you see inside the printer it has a carriage holder for two cartridges which moves back and forth to print.
So install the black cartridge and it will work perfect.
take out both cartridges from ur printer, install them again. ry to print again.kodak printers works on the mechanism that even if ur printing black and white documents, it will take ink out of colour cartridge as well . try to upgrade the firmware of ur printer by going to www.kodak.com/go/downloads and downloading latest firmware from there on ur desktop, connect ur printer to computer and run that file. restart ur printer,ur issue will be resolved.
Some will allow printing with just black & others will not. You may need to put a color cartridge in to print. Check your owners manual or canon website to make sure but if you do need a color cartridge you can buy a generic brand that works with your printer to save some $$. Hope this helps.
Yes, this printer has fixed printheads and must have ink in each color to prevent damage to the printheads. Even when printing black only each color is spit in the servicing area to keep the printhead unclogged.
