Washing machiene drum won't turn

My washer drum got stuck, so I looked behind the back cover and noticed the the belt which connects the motor and the drum is lying on the base of the machiene. I couldn't get the belt back on but turned the washer on at a program to see if the motor still turns and it does the washer fills and emtys with water as if every thing is ok. it also makes the usual noises, the only thing is though the drum wont budge it is stuck, it wont turn no matter how hard i push (didn't put immence force on it in case i break something els). I am starting to believe that the reson the belt came off is because the drum's not turning. can any one please help me.

By the way its a hotpoint washer about 3 years old.
