SOURCE: laptop will not keep current date/time

The BIOS battery is nearly flat and this is causing the time to drift.
Replace the BIOS battery with a new one, then you will need go into the BIOS configuration to set the date and time.

SOURCE: Inspiron laptop clock incorrect

Go into the BIOS by turning on the laptop and pressing F2. In there i believe on the main screen you can change the time and date. Do that, save changes and exit and then go into windows and see if it keeps the right time and date.

Let me know how it goes.

TM 6460-6752 Series loses its time and date when shut down

The coin cell battery on the motherboard is depleted. Get the number off it and get another one to replace it . You may have to go into the bios if it won't boot correctly to input the correct time and date.

Every time i turn my laptop on the time and date keep changing and going back nearly 3 years,i have been told it is the CMOS battery is this right?

Hi,

What you have been told is correct. When the real time clock battery (CMOS) runs out then the date and time will revert back to the day the bios was programed, in your case 3 years ago.

You can set the date and time while you are using Windows but each time you power the laptop down it will loose this information.

A quick workaround is not to power the laptop off but put it to sleep instead until you have got a CMOS battery for the laptop.

Regards.

Date has reverted back to2006

Press Menu and select the Setting Menu. Navigate down to "Date Adjust" and press Right-arrow, and the Date Adjust screen will appear. Navigate around and change the settings. Press OK when done.

If you've misplaced your manual, you can download one from the manufacturer's web site at http://www.pentaximaging.com

My Acer extensa4420-5963 has been acting funky for the last three/four days. Started out my date and time went haywire. Clock kept losing time as soon as laptop was turned off and reverted to battery. Then...

Hi,

First of all the RTC (real time clock, BIOS/CMOS) battery has run out. This means the computer cannot keep the date and time when its turned off and disconnected from the mains. You will need to take the laptop to a reputable PC repair store and have them fit you a new CMOS battery.

As for the power on problem, this well could relate to the CMOS battery being drained but also could be a number of different reasons why it won't power on properly.

In my experience laptops that have problems powering on is either to do with the DC adapter on the laptop that has a dry solder point or the power board is failing.

Either way i would take the computer to be looked at.

Regards.

When switching on it goes back to the original date & time

Your cmos battery is flat, that must be an older laptop.

Requires a strip down to the mobo to replace battery.

This will require a Tech to do so.
