Screen Issue when HD Satellite Receiver is set to 1080i

My Samsung tv will not work properly when my satellite receiver (Motorola DSR505) is set to 1080i. There is a duplicate image in blue on the screen of whatever I am watching, and the duplicate image is slightly tilted to the lower left side of the screen. I changed the setting on the satellite receiver to 720p and just get a blue screen, and then once I change it to either 480i or 480p the picture works just fine. I have tested the satellitle receiver on a neighbour's tv and it works great, so it is not a receiver issue. I also run a Playstation 2 on component, which does not have any picture issues.
What is wrong with my tv and how could I possibly fix it? I have no warranty left either...
I appreciate anyone's input, thanks!

Haier tv I am hooked into Bell Expressvu. HD receiver and I can't get the picture to expand to the entire tv screen. i can only find HD Normal and it stays in a small screen view.

It might be necessary to change the resolution/Aspect Ratio (Screen Size) settings on both your HD Receiver and your TV.
I don't have Bell Satellite but I do remember having the same issue setting up my friends HD TV and Bell Satellite TV Receiver.

Screen view area or size, font and channel logo are too large and outside the viewing area, how do we reset ?

Using your cable remote or satellite tv remote as well as the one that came with the television itself. Press the hd zoom # button on the cable remote. Satellite tv remotes will have format or aspect. For satellite tv receivers you may have to go into the menu on the satellite tv box to adjust the picture format i.e. 1080i crop and etc.

Make sure you have the television on the right input for hd and that the cable box or satellite receiver is displaying 1080 i.

Picture on screen is too big head of people are cut off it does not show complete picture

Use your cable or satellite tv remote to adjust the aspect ratio. If you have cable there is a button on the remote called hd zoom and it has this symbol: #. On the satellite tv remotes it usually says format or aspect. You might even have to go into the cable box/satellite tv receiver menus to adjust the aspect ratio/picture format. Once you have done so you can fine tune the picture even further with the television remote's wide/format/aspect/zoom button. Also check and make sure your television is on the right input and that your cable box/satellite tv receiver is set at the right resolution for the television 1080p/1080i/720p.

Lost my remote and tv is hung on zoom...anyway i can get off zoom without the remote?

Yes there is a way around zooming in and out without the television remote control. The cable box/satellite tv receiver also has an option to zoom in and out on it. BUT it usually only works when you have the hd box/receiver AND the television has to be on the right input in order to receive hd (component input or hdmi input). PLUS the cable box/satellite receiver should be set on the 1080i resolution (or 720p depending upon the resolution the television can accept). Then you can find the button on the remote that says #hd zoom (yes the # sign is on the button) or the button may be format or aspect.

Problem with HD feed from satellite receiver

I just had my HD DTV installed this weekend, you have to leave it on 480p. I too purchased my tv in 2002. Per DTV, its an older model and you have to stay with the 480p to get the best possible picture. I have to admit, don't know what the 1080i looks like, but 480p is showing me a very good picture. Best I have ever seen on my TV.

Most satellite boxes have a zoom, stretch mode that might be incorrectly set. i would check that first before dooming an issue with the TV.
