Hi Inge, not to worry steel plates got a little rust film from sitting probably. Let the bike warm up for a few minutes then do the push,run, jump on the seat routine while in nuetral and drop it in 1st gear and drive it around for a while the plates will eventually break free and peace on earth and good will to all mankind will prevail. Try using 20w50 Harley Davidson SYN 3 in the primary and next winter don't put the bike in storage with the engine hot. Wait untill the next day and fire it up drop it in gear for 30 seconds then put it away for winter storage. Good luck
you can ride the cluthch on a bike un like a car you wont hurt it its oil lubricated constantly, sitting on the bike pull the clutch in with your left hand and click the left foot lever down in to 1st, then learn how to click it back up 1 half movement in to neutral. the neutral light will come on sfter the bike enters neutral. in first gear give the throttle on the right hand a squeeze and pull the clutch in with your left hand put foot gear selector down in to 1 st and begin to release clutch slowly. hold on as bike will engage may be jerky balance yourself! when you get moving stop! by pulling the clutch in and the hand brake as you close the throttle to stop! practice your take off many times some where safe! when you get your balance in 1st gear pick up speed and begin shifting the foot gear selector up in to 2nd gear and practice closing the throttle and breaking to a safe stop. gears are generslly 1st down 1 click 2345 and6th all up from there and neutral is 1 half a click up from 1st between 2nd gear. And dont put it in gear with the kick stand down t may stall on you
Both the clutch and the kickstand are safety features to stop people crashing.If the stand is down and hits to road while you are riding.You crash.The clutch is to stop people starting the bike in gear and losing control if it starts.Hope this helps you
could be a few different things,But always start with the small( inexpensive )first and work your way up...#1 check your clutch cable adjustment to be sure its engaging and disengaging properly(clutch cables stretch over time and need replaced or adjusted)...but if you have never done any clutch work to the bike(and you ride it like i do mine) #2. it probably needs new clutch plates and #3 maybe clutch basket from your description of the problem. the clutch plate fibers wear down over time(they are like brake pads and wear out).and the plates wear groves in the clutch basket and interfear with the plate movement...hopefully its just your cable..hope this helps..
This sounds like dirt and grit in the oil is causing the clutch to grab. Change the gearbox oil. Ride the bike for a couple of hours using the clutch often. Now drain the oil again and put in fresh oil. This will flush out the dirt and grit. Use 10w40 motor oil. Stick with the major brands; Pennzoil, Quaker State, Mobil or Shell. Do not use synthetics or oils with "special" additives.
Other possible causes are > a need to adjust the clutch lever for 1/4" free play at end of the lever > warped clutch plates or friction plates > Clutch has been worked on and assembled wrong > low oil level in the gearbox > frozen clutch hub bearing > Incorrect clutch cable being used.
Please post a comment after the double oil change. The 2x oil change is a cheap way to eliminate a possible cause and hey, it isn't gonna hurt anything. If you still have the problem I can help with a clutch rebuild.
First, get a new clutch cable. Tape the new cable to the old one and unhook the old one. Now you have a new cable and a reserve cable ready for use if needed during a race.
