Legend 42'' LCD (LEC-4227) Problem

I have a Legend 42'' LCD 1080P HDTV (LEC-4227) that will not turn on.

Here are the symptoms:

I can turn the TV on with the remote control or TV power button, but there is no picture or sound at all - the screen is completely dark. The power LED changes color which is the only sign of life.

After I turn the TV on, it cannot be turned off using either the remote control or power button on the TV.

I am not the original owner, and from what the previous owner tells me, they had a problem with a black box rectangle ''menu'' popping up over top of the picture sporadically in the months leading up to the no-audio/video problem.

I temporarily disconnected power wires to some of the internal components like buffer boards, etc to isolate the problem but it seems that the problem exists even though I only have the power supply and the ''logic'' board (a main circuit board more or less in the middle of the TV). I can only assume that the problem is in the power supply board or the ''logic'' board, but I don't know how to proceed.

Please help me and the others with this problem.

I am NOT interested in answers like ''take it to a shop'' or ''buy a new TV''. I would like to hear from someone who can tell me what board is the problem, and possibly how to troubleshoot at the component-level.

Thank you.

As a follow up to this problem, the Power supply is NOT the problem. Also, this TV is essentially the same as a Polaroid FLM-4201 since they are both made by PRIMA.

I removed the tin shield from the circuit board with VGA and HDMI inputs. After using a heat gun (or a hair dryer) on a medium setting in different areas of that board, I noticed that the TV would turn on and function normally if I heated up the largest BGA (ball grid array) surface mount chip on that board...

After the chip/board would cool down, the problem would present itself again. This symptom is very repeatable so I found out that this board was the problem... On one occasion, the TV worked properly except that the backlight would turn on or off intermittently... Same reason. Heating the large IC again resolved the problem temporarily... Therefore it seems to me that this board may be the cause of multiple symptoms of failure on this TV.

The board can probably be replaced by someone who does BGA reflow or BGA re-balling, but you can probably find a refurbished PCB board on Chinese auction websites like for about $120USD shipped.

Hope this helps anyone looking for this info...

    Take Care.

I also have the exact same TV. No power on, but LED turns blue. It took awhile to get the back cover off. I inspected the Power Supply Board. No faulty Caps. Took of the shield from the HDMI / VGA Board, inspected for faulty Caps...None. Did the same for the Component/ Composite Board...Nothing. A more detailed step by step, troubleshooter would be helpful and see which Cap has failed or other problem that I am aware.

Philips 42PFL7422D/37 42-Inch 1080p LCD HDTV Picture went out but still have sound. Any tips on how to fix it?

If the backlight of the LCD-panel does not function, (no picture) then Master and/or Slave inverter are defective. Inverter boards are screwed to both sides of the LCD display, if they have revision 1.2 boards then they will need replaced with revision 1.3 boards.
