Why does my dehumidifier run al the time ,i have the humidity set at 45 and when the room temperaturegoes down to 55 it keeps running.

The 45% setting is too low and the setting is never satisfied, so the unit keeps running to try and reach 45%. Try setting to 50 or 55, this is a very comfortable range. I was not clear on the room temperature being at 55 degrees. Is this what your thermostat is set to or is this the actual room temperature. Brrrrrrrrrrrr

My Danby DDR583R dehumidifier no longer dehumidifies unless I set the humidistat to the lowest, constant run setting--then the compressor kicks on. The humidity reading says 14% which I know to be...

There are a several things that can mimic a faulty humidity sensor.

1. The air intake filter is clogged and needs to be removed and cleaned.

2. The coiling coils need to be cleaned.

3. Ambient air temperature at floor level is between 40 - 60 degrees.
dehumidifiers do not work well between those temperatures
(Unless, you have a Low Temp Unit). This applies mainly to
where the air temperature at floor level is colder than at shoulder
level
in basement applications. Raising the unit up off the floor,
onto a sturdy table, counter top, etc, that can handle the weight
of the unit, plus a full tank of water, will usually resolve this
problem.

If the above fails to help solve the problem, replacing the Humidity Sensor is certainly an option. But, before you jump into it, make sure you have an accurate wiring diagram, so you know which sensor is which. As the part does not come with installation instructions.

I hope this helps you and thanks for choosing FixYa.

THE UNIT DOES NOT DEHUMIDIFY, MODEL HD456E, I SET THE TEMPERATURE TO 50 AND IT ALWAYS SHOWS THE WORD "LO" AND WILL NOT RUN, UNIT HAS LESS THAN 200 HRS. WHAT DO I DO? unit was purchased at menards...

You are setting the temperature to low. Dehumidifiers do not work well between 40 - 60 degrees F. That's why the word "LO" keeps showing up. Raise the temperature setting and set the humidity extraction level (Arrow Down) at 30-32%. In fact, if you can disregard the temperature setting and the unit will work, do so. That seems to be the fly in the ointment, when it comes to getting everything to work as it should.

Hope this helped you to troubleshoot and solve the problem. Please let me know. Thanks.

What is the proper setting to take the moisture out of the basement?

The lowest setting that the unit shows on the LCD screen. Usually 35 to 45% is the best setting for a basement. However, if the ambient room temperature at floor level is between 40 and 60 degrees F, it may struggle a bit or the coolant coils may frost over a bit. If this is the case (air temperature, wise), get the unit up off the floor on to something that is sturdy and can handle the weight and vibration of the compressor running.

Hope this helped you. Please let me know. Thanks.

What is the right temperature setting when the room has a lot of water?

You can't control the temperature setting but you can control the humidity level. I would start somewhere between 35 and 40%- making sure to empty the dehumidifier promptly when full. 40% humidity will prevent mold and mildew growth- and that musty smell- but keep the room from becoming too dry.

Just wanna know how to set the temperature on it

dehumidifiers do not have a temperature control, rather, they have a humidity control. usually you set the humidity control to go off when the level of moisture in the room reaches normal (approx. 25-35% winter;38-55% summer). Best way is to run it at full on for 1 to 4 days (until you know the moisture level is how you want it), then turn the knob until the unit goes off . This will be the ideal setting. Settings? how do I set the temp on Danby DDR601

Since the DDR601 is a deshumidifier, there's no temperature settings. It's built for humidity control, not for temperature control.

Auto-defrost not working at all

Unless equipped with special equipment most dehumidifiers will produce little if any water under 65-70 degrees. Many state operation down to 50-60 degrees but this was under lab conditions and therefore a marketing tool. The best performance is gained when the air temperature is above 70 degrees. The water you are finding is from melting frost, if you have a humidity problem you should be adding heat to the area to be dried, warm air holds much more moisture than cold and drying is much more effective if you can heat the area to around 80 degrees.

Question on temperature range

Most dehumidifiers run between 42 degrees and up. If you need one for lower temperatures you can buy special ones. If you have cold temperatures in your location the air is usually dryer in the winter so the dehumidifier is not really neaded during that season. The average humidity setting you would want to run it at is 60 Percent. It will keep your basement from becomming damp and also keep it from running nonstop. Good luck and if you found this solution helpful please rate it when you get a chance. Thanks - Tech101
