Thanks for the info. I'll let you know what happens.

  • traegers Jun 27, 2009

I've taken apart the microwave and believe I've found the problems. There appears to be a double relay switch found immediately behind the wall where the power cord attaches, and the power flows through that switch. The relay switch, when the little plate is pushed, appears to allow power to flow through. The second problem is a 125 V / 20 amp. ceramic fuse located near the transformer. The ceramic fuse does not have continuity.

  • traegers Jun 28, 2009

I replaced the ceramic fuse and as soon as I tried to set the clock it blew. So I assume there's a short somewhere. Don't know if it will be cheaper to fix it or purchase another one. Thanks for you help.

Assuming that the internal cooling fan was working properly, it may be as simple as a failed magnetron thermal cutout.

I don't have an exploded view on this one, and the supplier's part list is not detailed properly, so you would have to remove the magnetron thermal cutout and look for the numbers on it, either 145 or 150.

See:
http://www.microwavedisplay.com/safety.txt
http://www.microwavedisplay.com/disassembly.txt

Then here would be the part numbers:

RTHM-A080WRE0 Thermal Cut Out 145 Degree c
RTHM-A085WRE0 Thermal Cut-out 150'C

You can order parts from Encompass here or you can call them toll-free at 866-779-5835.

You should also check the 20A ceramic fuse. Fuses can be had locally in most grocery stores, hardware stores, home improvement centers, and big box or department stores.

    I'd suspect the fuse:

"You should also check the 20A ceramic fuse. Fuses can be had locally in most
grocery stores, hardware stores, home improvement centers, and big box
    or department stores.
    "

Not sure what the "double relay switch" might be. One some models they had a switch that kept the oven from being operated with the outer cover off.

If you still have concerns about that, please reply back with a clear photo.

Are you talking about something in the outlet?

The may be a ground fault interrupter (GFI).

Did it blow when you opened or closed the door, or when you pressed keys on the controller?

If any of those, I would suspect a problem with the door switches or alignment and would suggest you see these files:

Or was it when you hit Start? Or a few seconds after?

The control panel of my sharp grill 2 convection microwave oven is very dim

Hi,
Dimmed light might be caused by a slight contact between the panel's connector and the mainboard. Or, there is a dimmer option (feature) in the menu. Depends on model. Some of Panasonic microwave ovens are equipped with such a feature.

Dan

While baking a sweet potato, the potato exploded and caught on fire. The microwave no longer works.a fire bro

I haven't heard of such a thing. You must have cooked it until there was no moisture left in the potato. That would also account for the failure of the oven. It would be the same as no load in the oven.
A thermal protect part is your current problem.

Auto Cook not working

If autocook is not working and everything else it, there is an issue with the sensor in the oven that detects the steam, The emission of steam is what triggers that unit to shut off. If it wont cook on any settings then the issue is with the microwave generator not putting out enough power. This could be from a lot of things.

Sharp R959SLMA auto cook not working

please make this test and fix it. God bless you
  1. Check the power diode This electronic component is responsible for transmitting current in one direction. If the diode becomes defective it will cause your microwave to not heat. Test the diode and replace it if necessary.
  2. High voltage capacitor Responsible for storing electricity, this part is a key component in any microwave. Remove, discharge, and test the capacitor to determine if it requires replacement.
  3. Damaged magnetron Responsible for generating waves and producing heat. When your microwave is no longer heating properly, replacement will be required.
  4. Thermal Cutoffs Examine the thermal cutoffs on both the magnetron and the oven itself. Take off one of the leads and using a volt-ohm meter on RX1, check the terminals. If you get a result other than zero, replace the thermal cutoffs.

yes you can bake cookies in the carousel on BAKE I suggest those new rubber looking bake plates help a lot to reduce the moisture that makes them soft.

Sharp microwave losing cooking power

If the supply voltage is low it will take long time to heat foods. The second reason is the Magnetron. Since it is in the warranty period you can call at the sharp authorised service center. They will do it free of coast.
