Question about Linksys Wireless-G WRT54G Router

1 Answer

I use a home network set up using a Linksys Wireless-G WRT54G router. I just had to reinstall Windows XP home edition on a Dell Inspiron 9300 computer. In hardware manager, the computer lists the Dell and Proset/Wireless drivers for my wireless connection, but will not connect. The computer will not save or connect to a profile already established nor is there an IP listed. However, I can hook up directly to the router and connect to the internet, but no wireless.

Make sure you have fresh ip address...
go to command screen: ipconfig /renew

If this doenst work you can static the IP of the Wireless NIC. Make sure the IP you use is on the subnet of the router.

Cant connect to my dell inspiron 8100

I think you should check the wireless settings of your router first.
If your wireless network is secured then make sure that you have the correct wireless network key WEP / WPA .
If your router is too old then it will be better to upgrade the firmware of your Linksys router.

I reinstalled windows XP and now my Linksys wireless router will not connect to the computer. I reset the router. There are three computers on the network. The only one that can/t connect is the one with...

My friend,

In that computer go to the wireless connection in the control panel.

And try to connect through the Windows utility.

Don't forget to start the wireless zero configuration from services.msc

To get in to services.msc in xp
Click on run and type services.msc
Then search for the wireless zero configuration .
Start the service.
Make sure if there is any other utility is there on the computer then disable that.

Wrt54g linksys problem

are you trying to set up the router for the first time ?
OR the router was working before and you are trying to add a new windows 7 computer to the network ?

If you are trying to set up the router for the first time then you can do it manually without the CD also.

If your router is already working and you want to add the computer to the network then you just need to connect to the network

Wireless network connection not working

For some reason known only to Dell, the default setting for the Inspiron 6000 built-in wireless network adapter is 'off' or 'disabled.'

If you used Dell's restore disk to reinstall XP, the radio button is turned off. Go to control panel/system/device manager, find the wireless LAN device, right-click on it and choose 'Properties.' Under 'Wireless radio' check 'on' or 'enabled.'

Go back to Windows network setup wizard and go back through the steps using the 'restore network connection' button. You should be good to go.

There's an EXCELLENT network manager from Cisco named 'Network Magic' that takes all the guesswork out of setting up your internet connection. I highly recommend it. They offer a free trial and I think may even have a 'Lite' version that helps with simple connections without the bells and whistles of the full blown program. I'm not sure about that, but I can't tell you how much time it's saved me troubleshooting and setting up networks for my clients.

Cannot connect my wifi laptop to the wireless router

If you use your original Win XP disks, there's a chance you now have XP SP1 (Service Pack 1). Make sure you've made all the necessary Windows Updates as working with WiFi networks was enhanced with XP SP2. Then you can try to find your wireless network and connect to it. If you had a secured network you'll need your previous network key (similar to a password, but without a username, the wireless key is needed to exchange data with the router) If you can't remember the settings on your Linksys you can reset it to factory settings with inserting something into the reset hole to press the hidden buton and holding it for several seconds until lights on the front flash. Then you HAVE to run the initial install procedure (find your CD and Quick Start sheet) because your router will be open and unsecured.

Network key

Lkrawlings:
Can you go into your router from IE? like http://192.168.x.x, then from this configuration page of your router you can find what key you had put into your router. Make sure the type of security you are using like WEP, WPA, PSK, WPA2 etc. This key should match on your desktop or laptop machine to gain connection to your router.

If you are unable to find your key like this then:

You could refresh your router to factory defaults by pressing for 5 seconds, you will find this hole at the back of your router. try going again into your router like I said above and make up any other key.
Hope that helped!
