SOURCE: Lines on the display panel.

Unfortunately, no. The panel must be replaced to address issues of vertical lines like this.

The cost of this far exceeds the need for repair. You should probably just replace it; either that, or ring up Sony again and escalate, escalate, escalate.

The keyword here is: escalation.

As far as it being a manufacturer's defect: it's not. Vertical lines on panels are nothing new, and Sony is by no means unique in having panels that go bad. It is something that "just happens" on these sets. The defect rate is freakishly low; the overall quality of the product is good, and the set has performed adequately throughout the manufacturer's warranty period. I hate to sound like a blowhard, but in some respects, that's why they offer you an extended warranty. The manufacturer only guarantees your product will last a year--that any defect should reveal itself within a year. True? Who knows.

In most cases where a defect truly is the cause, they extend that original manufacturer's period to cover the inconvenience to customers.
In your case, Sony has not extended any kind of warranty coverage beyond that one year.

I wish I had better news for you, and I wish you the best.

SOURCE: My ten year old sony plasma tv has vertical herring bone lines no picture just color lines. Is my picture tube gone.

If its 10 years old boards and or parts will likely not be available--average life on Plasma and LCD sets is 3-5 years.

I would retire it--recycle it and buy a new set.

The fault sounds to be with its back light. Check the back light inverter board. Replace it if needy. If you wish to get more details, check this link. Selecting the view option, either to Mosaic / Time slide, can be selected by the drop-down list, at the top left of the display window, will make surf easy. You can also do a search, by type in the brand name/model number/IC used, in the search box at the top right of the display window.

Dark picture on RCA Scenium 61 in DLP

Yes, the lamp will gradually get darker as it nears it's end. The rolling lines sounds more like the set is on a local channel for the cable hook up. If your local area has a channel 3 or 4 live terestrial broadcast simply tune the cable box output to the other one, the same for the tv.
If this is cable/local broadcast issue it will go away in Febuary when the NTSC broadcast ends.

DVD/VCR combo player won't work

I had a similar problem and corrected it with a solution found on another site. Try hitting the I/P button on the remote which controls whether "Interlaced" or "Progressive Scan" is used to display the image on the TV. Mine worked when "Interlaced" was used. but no picture was displayed when "Progressive Scan" was used. The I/P button toggles between the two settings.

No picture but has sound

Hi If your t.v.has built-in blue screen when there is no signal, then the DVD may have been accidentally switched to progressive scan mode, or defaults to that setting if new. If your T.V. is not capable of displaying in progressive scan mode, you will just get a blue screen. If you have an older tv, without blue screen, then connect it to that, and if you get a black and white split screen when you turn on the DVD, then progressive scan is the problem. Check the manual for the DVD player for the procedure to get out of that mode, and it should then work. If you still have no video, and you are using the yellow composite video jack on the back of your DVD player, then it must be brought in for service. Good Luck!
