Question about Coffee Makers & Espresso Machines

Open Question

My gaggia platinum vision begins brewing making its characteristic sound, then the flow of coffee slows to drips, the sound gets much quieter (humming sound can be heard). I have waited for several minutes with the drip, drip production and constant humming. When I press the "stop brewing" button, there is a pressure relief sound, gurgling then the normal coffee grounds/cleaning. There is no error code ... it just won't produce a cup of coffee. What are the potential causes and how can I fix this?

SOURCE: Bunn coffee drips slow

I had the same issue, poured in 8 and out came 6. Here's what I did to clean and fix.
1) Unplug the NHB
2) Remove accessories like the pot and basket
3) Bring NHB over to the sink
4) Snap off the entire top cover (not the swing lid) by starting at the front and lifting upward (the top cover is about 1/4" thick). The back of the top cover will pivot a bit and then pop off exposing the pour reservoir. Remove the flow stopper inside the pour reservoir by lifting it straight up.
5) Place the top cover and flow stopper aside.
6) Remove the brew diffuser (located underneath the top where the brew basket goes. Twist counterclockwise gently but forcefully enough to snap it past the lock tabs which hold it in place. You'll know that it you've done this correctly when it just falls out.
7) Still over the sink, tip the NHB in a fashion where the back side is facing upward and the brew side is facing down into the sink. You'll be holding the NHB horizontally by the top and bottom of the unit. This will allow any water in the tank to pour out the brew spout. Begin to tip the unit as if tipping upside down as this will allow any remaining water to drain out. If this does not work the brew spout hose may be clogged and you can just tip the unit entirely upside down to empty it from the fill hole in the pour reservoir.
8) Return the NHB to the upright position in the sink.
9) Using a scotch brite sponge and some baking soda, clean the inside of the pour reservoir and rinse.
10) Using the tool Bunn provided, clean out the brew spout hose which is located under the brew hat. This is the little hole where the water comes out. If you don't have the tool Bunn provided you could use something like a plastic tie-wrap. Don't use anything metal as the hose you're cleaning is made of plastic tube and could become punctured. Clean this hose for just a minute or two to ensure that there are no significant obstructions.
11) With the NHB upright in the sink, pour a slow stream of hot water from the faucet, about two cups, directly into the fill hole located in the pour reservoir.
12) Tip the unit horizontally, as in step 7, and place the tip of your finger over the pour reservoir fill hole covering it completely.
13) Shake the unit back and forth horizontally so the water in the tank splashes around and frees anything which may be built up in the tank. Some water may splash out of the brew spout hose.
14) Tip the unit as in step 7 to drain the tank water out.
15) Fill a 16 ounce glass with hot water and 2tbsp baking soda, mix and pour into the pour reservoir fill hole.
16) Repeat steps 13 and 14 once.
17) Repeat steps 11 through 14 three times.
18) Clean the pour reservoir cover, swing lid and flow stopper.
19) Put the flow stopper back in place.
20) Attach the top cover.
21) Clean the exterior of the NHB.
22) With the boil and warmer switches off, plug the NHB into the electrical outlet.
23) Turn the boil and warmer plate switches on.
24) Fill the NHB with one pot of cold water and close the swing lid. Wait one minute.
25) Fill the NHB with another pot of cold water. Place the pot on the warmer plate and close the swing lid. If water does not yet come out, fill with one more pot of water.
26) Allow water to drain from brew spout until it stops draining.
27) Empty pot.
28) Fill pot to 10 cup line and pour into the NHB. You should find that the NHB now delivers 10 cups back to the pot. Empty the pot.
29) Clean brew spout diffuser and replace back in the brew hat.
30) Clean the pot, pot lid and brew basket.
31) Wait ten minutes for the water in the tank to boil.
32) Brew your coffee as you normally would.

The only issue I experienced during this process was with the warmer plate switch. It appeared that the light in the switch blew although the warmer plate still warmed normally. Shortly after the water in the tank started boiling the warmer switch light started operating again.

SOURCE: PROBLEM WITH LOW FLOW/PRESSURE IN GAGGIA COFFEE DELUX COFFEE MAKER

the most likely reason for poor flow through the brewhead is a blockage in the outlet valve.the outlet valve is behind the shower disc holding plate and can be removed with 13mm socket. a straightened paper clip needs to be insrted in the outlet to clear any internal blockage, then pump water through. if the outlet valve splits in two ensure the rubber bung is inserted upwards.once refitted all should be fine

SOURCE: The "Brew Pause" feature doesn't work

It's the spring part on the bottom of that black basket. Now that it's broken there's really no fixing it. The only thing to do is call the manufacturer (800-726-0190) to get a new brew basket. They are open on weekends, so you could call them today and see what they can do (brew baskets are covered under the 3 year warranty, btw). Just have your model and serial number and you can probably have a new one ordered in less than 5 minutes. :)

Hi
If you make a pre-ground shot but don't put any coffee in it, and it does the same thing you have a blockage in the brew head.
If it run's normally, your grind is to fine. Push the grinder lever to a larger number. It takes 3 times to change to the new grind.
If it still dribbles, remove the brew unit (behind the door)
Holding the handle, the top left side is the brew head. There is an outlet pipe that exits the backside towards the machine (looks like an "L" pipe). 2screws hold it to the top. Remove the 2 screws while holding the manifold ("L" pipe assembly). Once they are removed, lift the l assembly off (becareful, there is an O-ring, spring and inside a crystal ball (don't loose it or your out of luck). Turn the brew unit upside down while holding the brew head in your other hand and the crystal ball should fall out. If it doesn't come out put a towel down and tap the brew unit on the towel. This should force it out.
Now remove the brew screen, by holding the screen with your finger and twisting the thumbscrew (remember thumbscrew, DON'T use the key to install the screen, use your fingers.....
Once the screen is out look at where the screen was. There are 2 holes. 1 big one in the center and a small one to the side.
With the brew unit upside down over the towel insert a paperclip into the small hole and force anything out the other side. I have gotten worms almost a 1" long from this passage. The paper clip has to go from this side to prevent damage to the seat on the other side.
Clean then reassemble. Brew unit on towel right side up. Drop the crystal ball in first. Then the spring small end first on the crystal ball.
Now the O-ring over the spring, then place the manifold on top of that with the pipe towards the machine. Insert your screws (I turn them backwards a little with a little downward pressure until they feel like they drop into the threads. They should turn down easily, if not back them up a little more ( we are trying to find the old threads) and tighten. Install screen, and tighten with your fingers. The screen just needs to be flush with the bottom of the brew head.
Run another pre-ground without the coffee and rinse it out. Do this once in a while to prevent this

Hi
That usually means that you are getting a restriction in the brew head.
Remove the brew unit. Holding the handle, on the top left side is the brew head, there is an outlet pipe that exits the front side towards the door (looks like a long "L" pipe). 2 screws hold it to the top. Remove the 2 screws while holding the manifold ("L" pipe assembly). Once they are removed, lift the l assembly off (be careful, there is an O-ring, spring and at the end a black rubber disk or crystal ball). Do this over a towel to prevent loosing small pieces, mainly the crystal ball.
Now remove the brew screen, by holding the screen with your finger and twisting the thumbscrew (remember, thumbscrew), DON'T use the key to install the screen, use your fingers.
Once the screen is out, look at where the screen was. There are 2 holes. A big one in the center and a small one to the side.
With the brew unit upside down over the towel, insert a paperclip into the small hole and force anything out the other side.
That should do it.

Coffee coming one side only of spout

There are two ways to overcome this uneven drip of coffee into the cup.
1- Make sure the machine is placed on a level counter top. The coffee drips as a gravity flow. Machine placed on a tilted surface will allow coffee flow more on the tilted side.
2- It appears the coffee faucet outlet has not been cleaned/flushed with any coffee cleaners or descaling solution. Clean the coffee outlet as following:
* Prepare two or four cups of Baking soda solution.Fill the Baking soda in water tank and make few espresso, using the preground cycle.
** Then use two to 4 cups of descaling solution and repeat the process making several espresso.

My Coffee Gaggia Vision is grinding and the coffee is coming out very weak. The billet coming out is very wet and small. Any solutions or ideas?

see this matter causes:
Make sure there's water in the unit's water tank.

  • 2 Unscrew the shower disk from the top of the unit and rinse it. Dry the disk and screw it back in place.

  • 3 Replace the coffee grounds with properly ground beans. Coffee beans that are either too finely or too coarsely ground will adversely affect the flow of coffee from the machine.
  • 4 Make sure the coffee in the filter is not packed too firmly if the coffee isn't flowing at all. If the flow is too fast, tamp the coffee down a bit more with the tamper.
  • God bless you

We have a five year old Gaggia Titanium regularly descaled. In recent weeks the flow of coffee has considerably slowed to a drip and we now get a message saying 'Brew Unit Missing'. The machine also now...

Remove the brew unit, find the 2 screws above the top shower the connects the discharge tube to spout. Remove screws and carefully remove spring and ball some have a plastic seat at end of spring. Clean tube make sure there is no coffee grounds blocking tube, reassemble and test.

After the coffee is ground and pressed, no water goes through to brew the coffee and dispense it

Sounds like the brew unit is blocked, to be sure try this, use the pre grounds button to brew a coffee, if no water comes out then it is the brew unit, remove unit and look under red o-ring, you will see a shower screen, clean shower and tube that flows to the discharge(top, you will have to remove the 2 screws up there, be careful not to lose the small plastic ball under the spring). Reassemble and try again.

Hi, Our Gaggia machine will not disburse water through coffee dispenser. Sounds like its operating normally till water flow should happen. Then the motor slows down to nothing. Have descaled to no effect....

Try this press the button for ground coffee then when it lights up press the coffee brew button, if water flows normally then the grind on the grinder needs to be adjusted coarser, if no water then the screen on the brew unit is blocked.
