All Whistler radar detectors operate on 12 volts. Non factory power cords should have at least a 2 amp fuse and have the center tip of the plug positive.

Whistler 1730 keeps blowing fuses. no other problems with cigarette lighter plug

Is the lighter socket fuse blowing or the fuse in the unit's power cord? Have you tried another power cord from a Friends radar detector? If it doesn't blow that power cord's fuse, then your power cord is bad. If it does blow the fuse in the other power cord, there could be something wrong with the unit.
