I replaced the photoconductor on an e250 model without the LCD displayand the printer will not acknowledge the new photoconductor. I tried a second brand new one as well. Same thing. Can you tell me how to reset the photoconductor counter on a model without the LCD display?

Here is an excerpt I found from the W840 user manual. Looks like you need to change the photoconductor kit. Here is the link for the user manual: images.lexmark.com/publications/pdfs/w840/eng/ug.pdf
To ensure print quality and to avoid damage to the printer, the printer stops operating after the photoconductor kit has reached approximately 60,000 pages (Letter/A4). The message 84 Replace PC Unit is displayed when the printer reaches this point. If the Toner Alarm setting is set to Single or Continuous (default is Off), the printer automatically notifies you before the photoconductor reaches this point and displays the message 84 PC Unit Life Warning. To avoid having the printer stop operating, replace the photoconductor kit when you first receive the 84 PC Unit Life Warning message. Once the photoconductor kit has been replaced, normal printer operation resumes
If a consumable product reaches the end of its service life, the product stops printing and displays the following messages in the LCD panel or the window of EPSON Status Monitor 3. When this happens, the product cannot resume printing until you replace the depleted consumable products.
The photoconductor unit comes to the end of its service life. Even if this message is displayed in the LCD panel, you can continue to print for a short time by pressing the B&W Start or Color Start button on the control panel. The message in the LCD panel changes from Replace Photoconductor to Worn Photoconductor.
84 replace photoconductor on the display indicates that the photoconductor has reached its expected life rating. You may continue to print but will be at risk for developing print quality issues. It is recommended that photoconductor unit be replaced. After replacing a photoconductor unit, you will also need to manually reset the PC counter,
Otherwise known as the drum kit. Quite often the laser printer will tell you (on the LCD display) that you need to replace the photoconductor, but the price list will have no such thing. It will however usually list a Drum Kit.
the photoconductor is commenly refered to as the "drum" .. its the cylindrical part that picks up and transfers the toner to the paper .. the error message might be telling you its time to replace the drum (they do wear out) or perhaps its not detecting the fact that it is in place .. the photo conductor drum is user replacable so it comes out without too much trouble .. sometimes its part of the replacable toner tank .. it would get automatically replaced when you change toner in that case .. be very careful with the photoconductor drum .. any scratches, finger prints or other damage will show up in the printed output .. dont expose it to bright light ...
According to Lexmark E450DN service manual; 1. Turn off the printer. 2. Press and hold Checkmark and Right Arrow buttons. 3. Turn on the printer. 4. Release the buttons when 'Performing Self Test' displays. The message CONFIG MENU displays on top line of operator panel. 5. Scroll down and select 'Reset PC Cnt.'
Turn printer off and remove photoconductor unit, close covers and turn printer back on without photoconductor, error will appear that you need to install photoconductor, install photoconductor and wait til it calibrates, if same error appears photoconductor is a consumable part you will have to replace it then.
