Question about Poulan Garden

1 Answer

Trimmer dies pp335 trimmer, starts and dies as if gas starved. Pumping the throttle keeps it running a bit, but it eventually dies. I have cleaned the carberator, replaced needle, diaphragm, gaskets and filter screen. Added a pick up filter to the tank because it did not have one. Reassembled and it operates exactly the same. I am going to replace the spark plug today, even though this seems fuel related. Ignition module is a third of the price of a new trimmer so I may not opt for this. Could the primer bulb be restricting the fuel flow?

If the bulb is cracked or gummed up inside it maybe starving the trimmer for gas. You stated you rebuilt the carb I was just wondering did you adjust it after the rebuild also did you put the same size needle jet back into it. In addition, did you change the screen for the jet they get gummed up and the screen will fill with residue most times.

SOURCE: My Craftsman 17cc gas weed trimmer wouldn't start.

Hi There, Check the primer bulb for tare or pin holes. Replace it. Check and clean carb jet it maybe plugged with debree. Also check for spark which you didn't say. Replace with correct plug.
Note; Do not use strong cleaners on rubber seals (O rings and gaskets) They dry up and crack.
If needed use a dabble of grease on seals

Replace the filter in the gas tank. Sounds like it is mostly plugged.

My poulan pp335 trimmer will start fine but when I try to give it throttle it dies. I replaced the plug and the air filter is clean. Any idea of what else I can try?

It is running too lean on the mixture, if there is a H and an L mixture screw on the carb turn the L screw out 1/4 turn if no better turn the H screw out 1/4 turn.

I have a poulan 25cc trimmer (P1500). It's about a year old. Recently, after trimming for 15 or 20 minutes, it tries to stall out... eventually it dies and will restart and run briefly then dies again. Any...

You can check a few things. Either the air filter is plugged up and the carb isn't getting enough air. Or you got a small piece of debris in the carb. Sometimes if it is debris stuck in the carb then you can just keep starting it over and over again and the debris will dislodge itself.

The problems you are having sounds very much like a blocked exhaust port/silencer. On these small two stroke machines it is normally the cause of lack of power or not revving. Happy gardening !!

It acts like it is flooded, starts with choke off and throttle depressed. runs until carb runs out of gas then dies

Yes, Your carburetor sounds like it needs cleaned. Or you may possibly need to purchase a carb. kit for your trimmer if the cleaning doesn't do any good. When cleaning the carb. use a Den Tek Brush, (teeth cleaning brush), to clean the small ports. Also, check the small screen in carb. Can get clogged easily.

It dies when you give it gas.but it startes fine

When it starts it is running on the idle jet and when you open the throttle it is being starved of the correct gas/air mixture. Sounds like you have a blocked air filter or fuel restriction. Take off the air filter and try to start it opening the gas slowly. If that doesn't work, clean the fuel tank filter and try again. If that doesn't work, remove the carburettor and clean it with carb cleaner paying attention to any fuel or drilled holes in the body. Blow it off with compressed air and replace it. Ensure fuel tank has clean gas.

My TB475SS starts and then dies right away. i

It usually wont idle very well when it's cold, Goto #1 on the choke give the rope a couple of "quick" tugs, and then move it to #2 Give it one or 2 more tugs with a little throttle, now it should be running witha little throttle, let it run like that for a minute then move it to #3 kinda still pumping the throttle a little and it should take off fine. If this is the 4 stroke, mine did the same thing until it was broke in good. (About 4-5 uses), now I have to say its more reliable than any 2-stroke I've owned and I use it commercially. 1st or 2nd pull everytime and is ready as soon as it fires! Hope this helps!

As with all 2 strokes if you have compression and a reasonable spark, you only need fresh fuel with correct oil ratio) and they must go !(as long as you haven't fiddled first and all gaskets are sealing) I start mine by(1) pumping the primer till it is firm,(2) full choke,(3) pull till it kicks ONCE,(4) half choke, pull till it runs, allow to warm up and(5) switch to run (you may need to apply a bit of throttle while pulling as in (4)(or give it a few more pumps if it dies) If all is ok, check that when properly warmed up there is a smooth transition from idle to full revs, if it hesitates it may need the LOW SPEED mixture leaning (clockwise) SLIGHTLY.If it dies the LOW SPEED mixture may need richening(anti-clockwise)(adjust 1/8 turn at a time) Make sure that motor is just peaking at full revs and is on the RICH side of peaking (HIGH SPEED mixture)(this will avoid seizing it Adjust both till it revs cleanly and is JUST rich at full, and idleing nicely and it should start without too much trouble.(If you have fiddled and are lost,-about 2 1/2 turns out from closed on both needles should get you started)
