Try to restore your windows to the last restore point before the windows update. to do this, you go to windows help and support center on computer (open a windows explorer window, go to the help menu and choose help and support). there you can search for the term 'system restore'. in the search results you will find the system restore wizard, which will guide you through the process. just be sure to choose a date before you had this problem.
can you keep us posted on any evolution?

try to configure your automatic updates in such a way that they're not installed automatically. this way you can choose to view the updates you want to install. if you see that windows update wants to install updates concerning wifi, you can cancel the update and normally windows will ask if you want to stop being notified for these particular updates, which you should confirm.

i'm starting to suspect that somehow the wifi signal has lost some of its strength. if this is the case, this has nothing to do with the pc, it will be the wireless router...

If your laptop was running windows XP that would explain the problem, when you upgraded to window 7 you found that some of the drivers were not supported. The only option, go into the Acer site, go to download drivers to see if your laptop supports windows 7, if no! contact customer support and the technical department.

This is generallyhow your format the hard disk and install Windows.
First you need a Windows XP or Windows Vista installation CD and theproduct installation code which is printed on the Windows label on the bottom of your laptop.

Next format this new partition - Format the partition in NTFS not a quickformat. This will prepare the Windows for a clean install.

You need touse a computer with Internet access to download these drivers from the laptopmanufacturer's WEB site and install these drivers on your laptop.

You should be able to download and use IE9 as long as your processor is at least 1GHz, 512 Mb of RAM and 70Mb of free hard drive space. If its not working contact Microsoft support

My hp pavilion dv 9000 can not connect to bt home hub 2.0

hi, please make sure that you enable WPA encryption on the wireless router. Vista will give you trouble if you use WEP encryption. Also, please update the firmware on the wireless router, if possible.

Let me know how it goes.

Lost connection between switch and hub - LED flashes every 5 secs

You say you have the same problem when you connect the cable directly from router to laptop, so it apparently is not a hub problem. That leaves the router and the cable. You're fortunate in having a working system on the other port. Why not try swapping pieces to see which is the failed piece? For example, what if you swap the ports for the cables? If it's a router problem, then the "bad" cable should work when in the other port. What if you swap cables? That would reveal a bad cable. Finally, swapping computers would show a computer configuration problem, such as the connection not being set to automatic.

Salutations LHmom,

Because your using laptop computers and a mobile carrier for your internet services this will be a little harder then normal but not imposable.

First what you would need is a ethernet switch or hub. This should allow you use the laptop with the Verizon card as a "Gateway". You would then connect the Xbox 360 to the hub and it would share the internet from the laptop.

Windows XP, and Vista have nice networking wizards that can walk you through the settings. But be aware you may need to change the settings back when you are not using the Xbox 360.

Hope this helps.

XE103 stealing bandwidth

Just a wild guess based on your description is that your hub steps down the network to match the slowest network device on the chain, and it's seeing a device on the far end of one of your XE103's running at 10Mb or maybe even 1Mb depending on the location of the XE103 and the structural resistance of your building. Hubs generally match network speed for all ports where a router is generally port independent.
