I'm assuming the power did not go off.
If you have access to a continuity meter?????
Unplug it. Connect meter to plug prongs. Turn switch on.
If no continuity, start checking for broken wire, faulty switch, whatever it takes to isolate the place where continuity is, and is not at. The problem is between those two places.
I would recommend to invest in a high quality blender that can perform all blending operations. If you're going to blending a bunch and need high speed blender to prepare smoothies and juices quickly. Vitamix will be a great option.
It can perform almost all task of your kitchen, can make nice smoothies, prepare chunky ingredients and much more. It can crush ice fast. Would be a great choice for kitchen use, quickly prepare everything you want. It is also affordable and has stylish design.

It means it's working very hard,
I suggest to put items that are thick in first and blend them then add the other ingredients after , the smell is the coating on the motor getting hot , if you see smoke coming out, drink your smoothie wash it out and take it back for a new one.
Yes that is strange, if you let it cool down and try it again with pushing the re-set button and still does not work, try plugging it into a different outlet. Find something in your place that you know outlet is working, lamp, toaster you know. If does work in another out let, then you of course griped that breaker. Then check your breaker box to see what breaker is tripped, and switch it back on, might just of had a power surge based on putting on reverse. If that don't work, I suppose possibly something in motor or switch went out. Please let me know, if it works, I will take a banana smoothie LOL
I think the ice was too hard for a hand blender. I think the impact has caused the blade to separate from the shaft or caused the shaft to separate internally. If your blender is still under warranty you might be able to get it fixed. Note: none of the "Smoothy" recipes in the manual call for ice. One uses ice-cream. One uses "partially thawed frozen strawberries" and one uses sherbet.
