It may be that the filter (if you have one) may be plugged up. Some have in-line filters that need replaced occasionally, especially if you have hard water. Trace the water line and look for something that looks like this:

d931a8c.jpg There is a small connection on both ends.

Some fridges have a filter that is similiar to an oil filter and just twist in.

If the problem is not the filter, you need to check the connection that you line comes from to make sure you have water available at the source. The supply line itself may be plugged.

How much ice does it make per day?

There are several things that affect ice making capability, such as -

1) How often the doors are opened
2) Leaky door gaskets
3) Bad ice mold thermostat
4) Light in refrigerator does not go off when doors are closed (easy to test).

Does it make Ice OK?
If so the ice-water valve may be at fault if neither work.
Eliminate water filter or frozen line to reservoir.
Make sure you have water to water valve
Shut off water, remove line, open water line. Catch water in container and examine. Clean on particles let it flush out some more open and close til clean. Verify pressure and flow.
Still no water?
Check voltage with a volt meter at the fill valve behind the refrigerator.
Attach volt meter to the coil wire plug just insert probes into them. Then push the button on the door like your getting water. No volts? If has Ice maker pull off the other set of wires on water valve and recheck with door switch. Still no power? Problem in the ice - water door relay or control board.
If these check OK water valve is not opening when power applied replace water valve. Power shows good replace water valve.

Too many items to mention here.
I recommend if your problem is actually the ice maker itself get a new or rebuilt one. Too many things to detail to make sure it all works out in the end. However you might replace it and still have a problem. So here is a list of items to check external of the ice maker to eliminate what might be something else.

First lets see if we can eliminate some things:
Itemized as Temperature, Water, Water delivery… It is assumed the refrigerator has been running and not making ice and has remained on (NOT UNPLUGGED AND OFF) freezing as normal before starting any of these tests and observations. Other wise you will have to start over with the problem at hand before proceeding.

External of the ice maker:
1st Does the Freezer temp get down to 12'F? . The temp of the freezer has to be this cold or colder for the ice maker to work. Just because meat stays frozen (28’F and colder) doesn't mean it will freeze ice (12’F and colder) and dump it out. You have to know and record your findings to be objective and not subjective.

If not your problem may not be the ice maker at all. Eliminate it as a source of heat in the freezer. It’s plugged into the wall of the freezer and has a heater that warms the ice up to turn it loose for “harvest”. Unplug or remove it. Recheck the temp after ½ to 1 hour with the doors closed during this time. If its still not to temp your ice maker may be ok.
A lot of things can cause the temp of the freezer to stay high. But if this is the situation you need to look for a different problem before condemning and buying an Ice maker replacement

2nd Does it get water into the ice maker? If the water isn't getting to it you need to check the water delivery system, water supply, and water valve in the back.
The water delivery is easiest to check by shutting off the water removing the supply line and catching the water in a container with the valve open 1 to 2 rounds to flush out any particles and verify good flow and pressure, and makes sure when you turn it on you have clean water..
After you have eliminated this;
Next if your not getting water to the delivery tube and into the ice maker
1 of 2 things is stopping the water. Either its: 1 mechanical or 2 electrical in nature.
Mechanical
The easiest to look at is the obvious first. The water is not falling off the delivery tube? Look inside the freezer. Make sure the opening of the water delivery tube in back or side of the freezer is open and does not have ice or frost on it. Ice, here, can freeze and close off the delivery system. A common problem is lime or scale buildup, causing this ice to form. If the tube has this problem, defrost it with a hair dryer. Clean the tube with lime away or CLR. Re try it.

Sounds like you have a problem with water valve/triple solenoid assembly. It controls the flow of water to the door and ice maker. I believe it comes as a complete unit.

I have a Kenmore refrigerator model 106.56542400. The ice-maker does not work though the cold water works fine. How much it will cost me? Trying to see if buying a new one is cheaper. Thanks.

The cost depends on where the problem is. For example: If the ice maker is NOT getting water to make ice then it is probably the 2 line water valve solenoid or the sensor on the ice maker that would tell the 2 line water valve solenoid to send water up to the ice maker tray. Both of those replacements will cost you in the neighborhood of $25.00 - $40.00 plus a service call if you aren't able to do the work yourself.

If water is getting to your ice tray, but not kicking out the ice into the bin - that is usually a motor problem. And cost you as much as what a replacement ice maker would cost you.

To give you an idea of the cost of parts here is the layout for your unit: http://www.searspartsdirect.com/partsdirect/part-model/Kenmore-Parts/Refrigerator-Parts/Model-10656542400/0582/0165000/K0707001/00012

We have a Fridgidaire side by side m#FRS6LF7GS4 The ice maker is not making ice. I'm assuming the water is still flowing to it because we can get water from the door still and we do have the medal arm down...

It sounds like the ice maker has burnt out and needs replacing, Try raising the metal bar to shut it off and then turn it back on, you can also remove the front cover from the ice maker and make sure the small motor inside is turning(this should always be turning when the ice maker is on)

Whirlpool refriigerator ice maker not working

With ice makers it is almost always one of two things. The ice maker itself, or the water valve. Figuring out which one is easy, and I will help explain.

First thing is the frig has to be cold enough for the ice maker to even start working. I'm assuming we have the cold part taken care of. Next, the machine will start a cycle and ask for water. Here is where the valve comes in. The ice maker energizes the valve and it opens allowing water to rush up the back of the frig and into the ice maker. After the ice freezes the ice maker goes into harvest and dumps the ice.

In conclusion, you either have an ice maker that stalled at some point during that cycle (in which case you need a new ice maker). Or the water valve is not opening, thus no water enters the ice maker and you get zero ice.

If you have ice in the ice maker and it is not dumping, you need a new ice maker. If it is empty, you have to either wait for it to ask for water or manually advance the ice maker into cycle so you do not have to wait.

At this point you will hear the water valve energize or not. If it never energizes, the ice maker is not working right, if it energizes and you get squat, the valve needs to be replaced.

If you have experience with a multimeter you could detach the harness going to the ice maker and simply hook up your leads. When the ice maker asks for water, you should get 110v reading on the meter. If you do, the valve is bad and needs to be replaced.

If I can be of any further assistance please let me know. good luck!

Oh, and the valve probably sells for between $50 and $100 depending on where you buy it. The ice maker should run between $100 and $180.

Crosley side by side ice maker makes to much ice !!!!!!

Most ice makers have a wire bar that senses when the ice bucket is full. The bar lifts up when new ice is made. The ice maker determines if the ice bucket is full by lowering the bar back down after the ice drops into the bucket. If the bar hits the ice cubes in a full bucket, the ice maker shuts off. If the bar drops all the way and dosen't touch ice cube, the ice maker continues making ice until the bucket is full.

So you likely have one of the following problems:
1) The wire bar is missing or bent. Check to make sure that when the bar is pushed up, the ice maker stops making ice. Most bars will 'click' into the up position so you can shut the ice maker off. Push the bar up until it clicks into the up position and wait overnight to see if it makes more ice. If there is no wire bar over the ice bucket, that is your problem.

2) The switch the wire bar is connected to is malfunctioning. If you push the wire bar up and the ice maker continues to make ice, this is likely your problem. You will need a new ice maker unit. Try Appliance Parts Pros or EBay for a new unit.
