PTO WONT ENGAGE

TORO LX500- WHEN SWITCH IS PULLED, I Have pos 12v going into both wires into the pto. no debris on deck, garage kept. ordered the schematics, looking for lead to issue.before they stopped working all together, I could pull switch in/out a few times rapidly, and it would mow again. Im leading towrds the switch, I'm just perplexed by the pos into both sides- like the pto is a closed circuit. thanks!

It won't be the switch then..... What you are looking for is a relay(black square box with four pins coming out). If you are getting power throw throw the switch and back out like you saw, it will be a sticky relay. Thats Y after switching a couple of times it starts to work. To completely be shore it's not the switch you need to put a wire across the switch, either un plug the switch and make up a loop or find a way to by-pars the switch. Relay will be the problem. Any car place should stock them.

If you changed the belt make sure it did not interfere with the wire that runs from the pto clutch, sometimes that belt can rub on the wire and wear through it,also if you had the clutch off make sure you aligned the steel retainer bolt that sets in the alignment hole on the pto clutch, this keeps the clutch from spring when disengaged if you don't get that pin through the hole in clutch it can push on the clutch and bind it.Also it may be possible to plug that pto switch in backwards. Also if you jumped the fuse out it may now have burnt the switch or wiring somewhere.

SOURCE: Mower deck PTO switch will engage when pulled but stop when rele

The PTO switch has failed. There is an internal spring and plastic parts in toggle switches that keep them in the actuated position. It's not practical to take the switch apart to fix it, but replacement switches are readily available - probably $12 - $20. It's a good idea to disconnect the negative terminal from the battery before you do any electrical work. Be sure to put the wires on the corresponding terminals of the new switch. Good luck! Please rate if you find this helpful, thanks.

Tou have a broken or loose deck belt. Not an easy DIY but medium and doable. Check the belt in the deck too (the one that makes both blades spin at the same time. This belt likely needs to be changed too.

Does the pto switch require 12v at switch ?

I'm assuming you're talking about a PTO switch that engages the blades on a lawnmower considering the time of year, if not they're all the same, but yes you do need 12V at the switch itself in order for it to signal the clutch that engages your deck's drive belt. In case you need to know, the clutch itself is bolted onto the crankshaft of the engine. Just follow the belt that drives your blades and you'll find it, they frequently go bad and when they do you can forget mowing until it's replaced. You can turn the key on to the run position but don't start it, then engage your clutch by pulling out on the "knob" or "button" & check for power at the clutch assembly itself- it'll have a couple of wires coming out of it that lead to the switch.

***Make sure all safety devices are hooked up properly and follow the exact instructions in the manual as you may just need to do something simple to fix the issue like making sure other controls are in a certain position.

Brst if luck my friend, check for power at the clutch itself too, you'll get it fixed!

Toro 11-32 won't start.new battery. i jump the terminals it fires right up. 2nd problem is the deck won't engage I hit the switch and nothing I leave the seat it shuts off when engaged

Check and see if the Engagement termnal on the solenoid is getting power. If it is replace the solenoid.

As for the PTO check for at its connector for voltage. If voltage is there check for about 1.7 ohms resistance across pto coil. If it reads infinity or less than 1.5 ohms replace the pto clutch assembly.

If the pto reads less than 1.5 and there is no voltage at the connector than the pto switch is probably burned up due the shorted pto.

Cant get the switch to acctavate the mower deck on a cub cadet lawnmower

Check the fuse, tan/blue wire coming off ig switch or tan coming off PTO sw.
If it keeps blowing, check wire going to PTO unit for shorts or defective connection to PTO.

Pto not engaging in john deere lx 167

Check the voltage on the wire(s) connector to the PTO switch. Sometime portion of the switch can go bad. If you have voltage coming in to the switch check the output voltage going to the clutch..

Just replaced pto clutch brand new ,wont engage.nothing, zip not a movement.

Check that you are getting voltage to the wires that connect to the clutch when you switch on the pto. If not check that you are getting voltage to the pto switch. If you are the pto switch is faulty. Regards Phil
