Question about Acer TravelMate 4320 Notebook

2 Answers

My acer 4320 can't see my hard drive - media test failure PXE-E61 - Operating system not found. Was working fine then half way through using it it came up with a black screen and the error message above. Thought it might be a dodgy hard drive so l replaced the hard drive with a known working one from my brother in laws pc and it says it can'tfond the hard drive. On the information screen in setup it does not show the hard drive but it does show the dvdrw drive etc. Any advice how l can get this working again ?? The hard drive is SATA. Steve

The PXE media test failure suggests it's trying to boot from the network as it is reached that method in the BIOS boot order due to no other boot devices being available, this can be ignored.
If you have the option, reset your BIOS values to default or fail-safe. This should in theory set your hard drive configuration options to Auto if present, though your disk drive may still be faulty and it may never be seen using with conventional methods. Does your disk spin at all?, does it make unusual noises? If you can get your drive detected, please continue reading. If not, other methods may help.
Swapping hard drives does not usually work correctly in the manner you describe, modern Windows operating systems will require the correct hard disk controller driver for your platform and fail to boot completely unless it happens to be similar to your old system. Even then, it's unlikely to find all drivers correctly; however it would be a start.
With your old hard disk in, as it was, please boot from your Windows XP installation CD (if available, and if XP), press R when prompted, select your installation (if present) and run 'chkdsk /r' in the console.
If using Vista, there is a repair icon on the first screen after the language selection which is mostly automatic.
Regards, Jon T.

If you know the brand of hard drive you can download their setup and recover homepage Ive done it many times. If its a seagate go to seagate.com look for software or support and so on. let me know if this was what you needed . good luck dc.

This error is a result of your computer not finding the operating system. This is usually the case when the hard drive has failed. You will need to take the computer to a technician to replace the hard drive and have windows reinstalled.

My acer aspire 5538G won't boot, i get a message saying error PXE-E61: media test failure check cable PXE-MOF exiting broadcom PXE ROM operating system not found.. and i am unable to use disk to disk...

Your computer is attempting to boot over the network (something that only works with a server on the network) PXE E61 Media Test Failure Error
You can get this message if the boot device order is wrong in your computer (go into bios and check) but more often, the computer has tried to boot from the hard drive and dvd and failed before trying to boot from the network. It sounds like the hard drive has been failing for a long time and is now so bad the disk to disk no longer works. Replace the hard drive and reinstall using the recovery DVDs you created. If you didn't create them, you may have to contact Acer for a set.

My laptop does not work it says PXE-E61:Media

Put 'Hard Drive C:' before 'Network' in the boot order
(If the hard drive does not appear in the boot order, that's why the PXE network boot agents start)

Note : Check that the hard drive is seen in the BIOS setup
Cause:
PXE (pronounce Pixie) is an agent used to boot on to the network
It's using the DHCP protocol to localise a server where the image of the OS is located
In order to PXE boot press F12 at startup or configure the boot order in BIOS to display 'Network' before 'Hard Drive C:'
If, for any reason, the hard drive is not seen the computer will attempt to boot on the network controller.
That is caused by the hard drive is missing, unplugged or failed

I GOT THIS MESSAGE TODAY PXE-E61 MEDIA TEST FAILURE CHECK CABLE WHEN I TRIED TO BOOT MY ACER ASPIRE 5630 THIS MORNING. IS THERE A QUICK FIX FOR THIS? EXITING BROADCOM PXE ROM OPERATING SYSTEM NOT FOUND

It is trying to bbot up using network boot because it cannot find OS on the hard drive, you can turn off the network in the BIOS setup page, but more likely you have problem with the hard drive or the OS is corrupted.

PXE error means that it is trying to boot from an ethernet / lan connection.

check your boot order options first and set it to boot
1. Hard drive
2. CD rom drive
3. Floppy (or usb if you know how to do this)
4. network(aka PXE)

If it still fails then yes there MAY be an issue with your hard drive.

Check all hard drive connections before running off for a new one.
This can be especially true with SATA type drives most of which dont have any sort of true locking device to hold the connections secure.

check connections of hard drive. 2nd check boot order in Bios, remove Lan or network boot from top order. 3rd choice if not solved reset bios by removing cmos battery and putting back in to clear it.

PXE-E61: Media test failure, check cable

check your harddrive, is it detected in bios ?
if no, it could be motherboard or hdd, but most of the time is hdd problem, so just replace it.
if yes, your operating system is corrupt, so you can reload your operating system.

Acer aspire 5630 wont boot up

it may be that the harddrive had broked, or is not properly mounted. Try removing it and then reatach it. what operating sistem do u use ?!

also try booting with a linux live cd and see if it can accesc the hard drive, if it cant, than thatşs u're problem. If it can, than u have to find out what PXE-E61 is (what component), and then test it (i presume is the hard drive or the optical unit)
