Question about Canon Powershot A1000IS Digital Camera

Brand New Canon Powershot A1000 IS battery power always low

I just bought a Canon Powershot A1000 IS because my Canon Powershot A570 IS was doing just what my new camera is now! The batteries that came with the A1000 became low so I changed them out for new ones. The camera will turn on, give me the 'very low' or '1/4 life' bar in the top righthand corner, possibly last long enough to take a single picture, and then die. I've replaced the new batteries I bought with other new ones, only to get the same result. I bought this new camera because my old one was doing the same thing after two years and I thought it was simple wear and tear. Why, after three days of use, will my new camera not accept its new batteries?!

Are you still using alkaline batteries? If so, alkaline batteries just don't have the power for more than a few pictures in a digital camera. Some may also have reached their shelf life, and though right out of the package may even have problems just powering startup of the camera. Digital cameras that use AA's for the most part should only be used with rechargeable NiMH batteries. If you read the camera's instruction manual concerning batteries, you may see the same recommendation.

Keep in mind rechargeable NiMH batteries will save you money in the long run over alkalines, AND they'll last for at least 100 pictures per charge (and probably many many more). You'll be very pleased with their performance, and may be angry with yourself for not buying them sooner. When at the store, look on the package for a power rating of at least 2500 mah.

How do I open the card/battery door on my Powershot A570 Camera?

My canon camera does the same thing. Engage the button and use your fingernail to wedge between the battery door and the camera body. This should cause the door to slide open.

My Canon PowerShot A570 IS won't turn on. I put new batteries in and checked the memory card. What else can I do?

Things to check first for a camera that won't turn on are battery contact points, and micro switches that are located on the battery and memory card doors. Troubleshooting tips on other things that need to be checked may be seen here. These tips won't work for every case, but they're worth a try.

Canon Powershot A570 keeps showing change the batteries

I had the same problem. Here's the solution. Go into menu settings, then over to tools, select reset all at the bottom of options list. You may have to re-enter the date and time. This solved the low battery problem for me. I hope this helps.

My canon powershot a1000 IS is frozen

Short answer no, all digital cameras have a reset in the menu and some have an external reset switch. Chances are your camera has an internal error.

Blank LCD screen on shooting mode, but does show settings. Will not take pictures. Replaying mode works, shows pictures taken before screen went blank. New batteries. What is going on??? Is it...

The Display button manually turns the LCD display on or off to save batteries. If you accidentally had turned the LCD off, It should only take one press of the button to turn it back on and leave it that way. As such, it's not you but the camera. The A570 IS is relatively new. Your camera is likely still under warranty. If so, contact Canon for warranty repair (see the following link):

No this is free, but Fixya does not have a team of experts waiting to answer your questions. The answers just come from average people reading this website. You just have to wait, BE PATIENT, and take a lot of the answers with a grain of salt.

Your problem sounds like a defective flash mechanism. As you just bought the camera, it should still be under warranty. First try to take the camera back to the store for a replacement (be nice when you do it). If they can't help, Canon will certainly help under the camera's warranty.
