Question about Microsoft Windows XP Professional With Servise Pack 2 (e8503040) for PC

2 Answers

Cannot maintain wallpaper.

On starting the computer there is no wallpaper just a black screen. The desktop icons are ok. Going into desktop properties I can select a wallpaper (radiance) and it works! On shutting down the computer and re-starting, the wallpaper has gone and I am left with a black screen once again.

1. change your theme to windows classic and then setup your favorite wallpaper.
2. if this fails create a new user account and see if you have the same problem in it too. If no, you can use the new user account and delete the one which you are using currently.

Your laptop wallpaper creates an ambiance to your desktop. It opens many different avenues to represent your laptop's purpose. You can set the wallpaper as an artistic image that you like and would like to share, for example a photo during a vacation. Right-click on the desktop to open the pull down menu. Be sure not to click on any icons when doing this as it will open a pull down menu for that specific folder or program. Scroll to the bottom of the pull down menu and click "properties." A "properties" window will open. Click the tab at the top of the window that is titled "Desktop". There will be an image of the currently displayed wallpaper and a selection box below. Scroll through the list of images to find a new image and click on it or click "browse" to select your own image from your computer and then click "OK". Hope this helps.

Black on two sides of monitor

For the Start menu, I assume you're talking about the taskbar that appears on the bottom of the screen. Press the Windows button on the keyboard (usually located between the Ctrl and Alt button on the left hand side).Right-click on the Start button. Click on the Taskbar tab and check the box that says "Lock the taskbar". Your taskbar should return to your desktop.

Wallpaper (desktop image)

In XP:
Right click on a blank space anywhere on the desktop. Click on graphics properties. You should see a window with your Wallpaper previewed in the top window. Click in the Settings. There should be a setting for "Stretch". Select Stretch and your desktop should return to normal.

In Vista: Right click on a blank space on the desktop, click personalize/display settings/advanced settings Click on your graphics card if available or graphics properties. You're looking for Aspect Ratio options From here you will see a setting with 2 options
  1. Maintain aspect ratio
  2. Full screen (no border)
Depending on your graphics card, this process may differ slightly, but the setting you need is Aspect Ratio

I hope this answers your questions. Best of luck.
