Ok to find your wirelessnetwork name on the bottom right of the screen when in windows, there is a picture of a monitor (computer screen) right click on that little picture and select network and sharing centre by clicking, this will bring up all the information you need to know by clicking on what you want to know, hope this makes sense.

cheers

I am trying to connect with my wireless system. I place my systems name in the proper place, but I cannot type in the password.

When youclick Refresh network list, then Choose yourwireless network and then click Connect to your secured WirelessNetwork, it will asks for a Network Key before allowing you to connectinto your wireless network. This Network Key is either the WEP, orWPA or WPA2 Encryption key that is used to configure the Wireless Router. The Passphraseis an alternate way to setup the Encryption key.
When you are requested for a Network Key, you can just enter the Passphrasethat was used to configure the Encryption key in the wireless router.

Can i get the procedure to set up a secure network. thank you

A manual for the router can be found here
Instructions for setting up a secure wireless network can be found on page 27 - under Customising Security Settings.
Make sure you use the "custom encryption key" option, and specify you're own passphrase

I would suggest using WPA-PSK authentication (if possible), as it is more secure
Hope this helps

The wireless networks are made secure by using the wep key.
The wep key was set in the wireless router. If you like to use the wireless networks you have to get the wep key from the person who administer wireless router.
Once you got the key you can connect it to the internet .
Thanks

Hi , I'm trying to set up a wirelessnetwork and i'm being asked to enter my WEP key ,where will i find this ? Thanks

Is it YOUR wireless network? If yes, then whatever you set up as the WEP key when you set up the wireless network -- that's it. If it's not your wireless network, you won't be able to gain access to the internet without the person who set it up providing that password.

If it is your network and you forgot the password, please reply with the router's model number and I can help you reset it.

How do I put an encryption on my linksys router?

Securing your wireless network is a simple process, which generally does not require a lot of time. This can be done by:
  • Enabling WEP or WPA on the Router
  • Enabling Wireless MAC filter on the Router
  • Disabling SSID Broadcast on the Router
NOTE: The wireless security modes available may vary depending on the model of the router and wireless adapter you are using.
Enabling WEP on the Router
Wired Equivalent Protocol (WEP) is a type of wirelesssecurity which does not change. It provides comparable confidentialityto a traditional wired network. There are two types of WEP you canchoose from:
a. WEP 64-bit: This type of WEP consists of 10-hexadecimal codes. To enable WEP 64-bit, click here.
b. WEP 128-bit:This type of WEP consists of 26-hexadecimal codes hence it is moresecured compared to WEP 64-bit. To enable WEP 128-bit, click here.
Enabling WPA on the Router
Wi-Fi Protected Access (WPA) is a type of wireless securitywhich is dynamic in nature. Meaning, it changes depending on the timerenewal you will specify. Hence, WPA is more secured compared to WEP.
  • Temporal Key Integrity Protocol (WPA-TKIP) – utilizes a stronger encryption method and incorporates Message Integrity Code (MIC) to provide protection against hackers.
  • Advanced Encryption System (WPA-AES) – utilizes a symmetric 128-bit block data encryption
To enable WPA, click here.
Enabling Wireless MAC Filter on the Router
Wireless access can be filtered using the MAC address of thewireless devices transmitting within your network’s radius. You caneither permit or prevent specific wireless computers access to yourwireless network.
To permit wireless computers to connect to your wireless network, click here.
To prevent wireless computers to connect to your wireless network, click here.
Disabling SSID Broadcast on the Router
Disabling the SSID broadcast is one way of securing your wirelessnetwork. This procedure will prevent other users from detecting yourSSID, or your wireless network name, when they attempt to viewavailable wireless networks in your area. For instructions, click here.
