Go to device manager (right-click my computer and choose properties, go to the 'hardware' tab and click the button 'device manager). there you can remove the driver for the mouse. after a reboot, the driver will be automatically reinstalled. can you post a comment if this doesn't solve the problem?

Does this mouse need a pad?

Almost all optical mice need some sort of padding. When you use an uneven surface or something with multiple colors, the optical sensors mistrack and you will note your mouse (curser) will bounce around the screen. An evenly colored mat works well.

I can't control where the mouse goes unless I keep working with it. It's all over the place: kensington orbit mouse 64221. I have taken the ball out and tried to clean it.

It's not the ball that's dirty...

Take the ball out and look in the hole. You will see two rollers that control the cursor movement. The ball spins the rollers. These rollers probably have a bunch of gunk/**** on them. Remove the gunk buildup from the rollers and the mouse will work fine (fingernail is a good tool for this). Turn the rollers with your finger to make sure all the gunk is gone. If not, replace it with an optical mouse (no ball).

Hope this helps!

Joe

Optical track ball is sticking. How clean it and what to avoid?

An "optical" mouse has *NO* track-ball.

If you do have a mouse with a track-ball, then rotate the "ring" that holds the track-ball inside the mouse, to "unlock" the ring. Remove the ring. Look inside the mouse. You'll see two rollers.
Look for accumulated "gunk" in a ring at the center of each roller. Gently scrape each roller, to clean it. Re-insert the mouse. Re-insert the ring. Rotate it, to "lock" the ring into place.

Pointer jumps

That's not a lot of information there...

How far does it jump? How often? Since when? Is this a new mouse, an old one, an optical or a ball mouse? Do you use a mouse pad? Have you installed any of that cursor mania stuff? Is it a USB mouse?

I'd recommend (If you have a ball mouse) to take out the ball by turning the circular plate under the mouse then blowing the dust out and wiping the ball clean. If it's an optical mouse i'd suggest a new mouse-pad designed especially for this optical mice. Also you might wanna try re-installing it. Or if it's a USB mouse trying it in a different slot and cleaning out that connection too.

Our mouse is jumping all over the place. Have removed the ball, cleaned, new batteries, etc. What else can we do. If there is nothing else, how can we keep our wireless keyboard connected but use a regular...

With a ball mouse the parts to clean are the two small spindles inside the mouse (they usually have little gears on the end of them). They run at 90 degrees to each other and over time dirt and grease build up on them. It can be quite difficult to remove. Scrape it off with a cocktail stick or similar - you will need to turn the spindle as you do this to completly remove dirt on all sides of the spindle.

MY optical mouse isn't working. I installed something by mistake- some kind of HID device and it blocked the mouse and game controller (joystick). Now my HID device ( I checked it in the Control Panel...

You probably can get it fixed by restarting your system with "Last Known Good Configuration". To do that, reboot your system and hit F8 a few times when it starts booting. If you catch the timing just right, the boot manager will display several options. Select "Last Known Good Configuration".

If it doesn't work after you did that, you can repeat the process but this time select "Safe Mode". After safe mode comes up, you can retore your system to the restore point just prior to the installation of the HID driver that causes your problem. Alternatively, you can remove that HID driver via uninstall if it is available.

Good luck.

what kind of mouse are you using?

Optical Mouse or the one with the Ball under it?

if the one with Ball under it...clean the sensor by removing the cap and ball...and clean the roller inside.

if your mouse is Optical, check the setting of your mouse (contol panel>>>mouse)

install the driver too to have more options

goodluck

Stuck mouse

Please unplug the mouse and replug it again. Let me know if the mouse is Ball Type. If it is Optical then, find out setting of Mouse in Control Panel and adjust them and test.

For Ball Type, remove the ball and clean all dust coming on it. also adjust the setting in control panel.

I have model pc7530

Are you using an Optical mouse, Wireless Mouse or a Roller Ball mouse? If its a roller ball, turn it over, twist the cover as the arrows show, remove the ball and you will see some rollers around the edges that read the balls movement. Clean the gunk off of them with your fingernail or cotton swab. (NO WATER)
If you are using a wireless mouse, change the batteries and make sure you have a good line of site to the wireless adapter, and RESET the mouse by pushing the button on the wireless adapter. If it is an optical USB mouse please let me know, if any of the above worked. Thanks //D

Erratic Logitech cordless optical mouse

Hi,
ive had the mx700 for two years and im very comfortable with it.
I think you problem lies not with the mouse or the driver, but rather the mousepad.
Since the mx700 is not a lasermouse, but "only" optical, it still needs a decent pad to work flawlessly.
Ive had problems with these kind of mice using blank paper, magazines or tablesurfaces.
Try to get a real mousepad from somewhere (should be really cheap), that should do the trick =)

I upgradet to a razer diamondback later which is a laser mouse (1600dpi, while optical mice (with the red light) have 800dpi). Some ppl say that this is too much, and not needed (you can get even higher specs =) but i felt a world of difference, it just works everywhere! (except for mirrors and glas =)
