Go to safe mode by pressing F8 before booting the normal windows, and then go to START then click RUN and disable all programs at the STARTUP.

Why is my screen forever freezing up on me

That can result from a virus attack. The viruses are capable of filling up your memory and makes computer operations very slow and eventually freeze. Or it can be a result of a failing hard drive. I suggest that you install an antivirus software, update it and run a full system scan. Restart your computer

My advice is to spend $50 and buy a brand-new disk-drive (probably 2 or 3 times as large as your current), and install Windows onto that disk.

Dimension 3000 keeps freezing

Sounds to me like the hard drive might be going bad. Bad sectors on the hard drive can cause the freezing to happen.

If you have a spare known working hard drive, put that one into the system and then install windows xp on it and see what happens.

If that doesn't do it then try each memory stick one at a time in each slot one at a time and see if the freezing goes away. If it does then you know its a memory stick problem.

Also unseat and reseat the CPU into the slot and make sure there is not dust or dirt in the socket that the CPU sits in.

After all of this if you still have freeze up problems then the motherboard is bad.

Latitude D810 freezes, hard to turn off

Sorry the tech shop jerked you around. Honestly it sounds like a bad hard drive with the weird freeze ups. Best thing to do, get a new hard drive put in there then go ahead and install the operating system on it and then get the drivers installed and any apps on it. Keep in mind that bad sectors on a hard drive will cause lockups to happen and since you already formatted the drive twice already and redid the system. I would lean toward a new hard drive. Now if after the new hard drive is put in you still get lockups then it could be the motherboard. Before going the motherboard route and after installing a new hard drive. Make sure that the air vents in your laptop are free of dust and debris. One more thing, check your laptop out and see how warm or hot the laptop is when it freezes up on you cause a bad fan can cause that.

Black screen freeze

You need to purchase a new hard drive because the one that you currently have is burned out. So go to a computer store and get a new hard drive and get windows installed on it and you should be just fine.
