Question about Acer Aspire One PC Notebook

2 Answers

The system boots up with just a black screen and a pointer after the start up messages. The pointer will move around but there is nothing to point to. None of the functions keys seem to do anything. I have already tried setting the system start up back to default values with not change in the way it operates.

Yes I have seen this problem before, completely turn off your laptop, remove power lead and all connected usb devices, let sit for 1 minute, don't insert usb devices or power lead and hold down power button to switch back on, windows will re awaken, after you have loaded into windows and logged on insert usb devices and power lead if you need too.

cheers,

You can try the following few things :- 1. when you come upto the level of cursor hit ctrl+alt+del. If task manager popsup then go to process and end process tree for explorer.
2. Press F8 during boot select last good known configuration and boot.
3. If both of the above don't work put your operating system CD and follow the cd and go for repair your existing operating system.
These will deffinetly sort out your problem.
Thankyou for using free fixya utility - rating from your side would be appriciated

Black screen during log in

Try booting in safe mode by hitting F8 every second after you turn it on until the boot screen comes up. Then select "safe mode" If it loads up in safe mode then delete the graphics driver from Device Manager.

If you were able to delete the driver in Device manager then reboot and get the driver from here:

How can you view the amount of bulb hours for an Eiki LC-986?

The manual for your projector is found here:
http://www.eiki.com/resources/resourcedownload.ashx?filename=/ownersmanuals/om_x986.pdf

My assumption since it is not specifically stated on the location of the counter is it should be located close to the option to reset the counter. I would start here and look around above and below this option.

According to pg 39 the steps to reset the counter are the following:

Turn projector on, press MENU button and ON-SCREEN MENU will appear. Press POINT LEFT/RIGHT button(s) to

move a red frame pointer to SETTING Menu icon (refer to page 37).

Press POINT DOWN button to move a red frame pointer to "Lamp counter reset" and then press SELECT button.
Message "Lamp replace counter reset?" is displayed. Move pointer to [Yes] and then press SELECT button.

My Sony Vaio VGN-NS110D Laptop computer won’t boot up, it cycles through to a black screen with the mouse pointer there which I can move. Apparently this is called the ‘black screen of death’! I can’t do...

Try these 1) Shut down the system 2) Remove the battery 3) Hold down the power button for say 2 minutes 4)Put the battery back 5) Boot the system
If you still hit the black screen with a cursor: 1) Wait for 2 mins at the black screen 2) Just type in your windows password (if you don't have one hit enter) and press enter 3) Wait for another 2-3 mins 4) Hit Alt Ctrl Delete and go to task manager (this time it should take you to the task manager) - fingers crossed LOL 5) Now do new task - explorer.exe
Hopefully you should be back in action.
Note, this is a work around and for a permanent fix either try and clean your system (check for viruses) or reinstall the system. Hope this helps.

You have a rootkit virus, the only answer is reformat the drive and start fresh, sorry.
After a fresh install is done immediately install service(can be downloaded free from microsoft.com) pack 3, because sp2 is vulnerable to a host of trouble.

Sounds like a virus. Or system failure. Your best bet is to call Toshiba, explain the exact error codes (if any) and problems. You may have to send the computer to Toshiba. Which will cost money.
Sorry I couldn't be more of help. Best of Luck!

Black screen

That means the Windows "Shell" or Explorer.exe is failing to load. You will have to wipe and reinstall your windows. If you have important data, I suggest you take your machine to a pc shop and have them attempt data recovery.
