This is not a new switch. There is 10 computers was connected to the switch over 3 years and another one link was connected from the switch to main LAN network. We call this link as uplink. We found this uplink with cat5 cable is not enough bandwidth to handled network traffic created from the 10 computers.

We had decided upgrade the exist cat5 to cat6. Problem is coming. This new cat6 cable will cause the whole network LAN fail. After exchange back the new cat6 cable to old cat5 cable. The whole network LAN comes to stable.

Is it the old switch can not plug with cat 6 cable? thanks for reply.

Is this a brand new switch? Or did it come from somewhere else? It might have an IP address assigned to it that is interfering with the rest of your network.

Try plugging in a laptop only to the switch and give the laptop a static IP, see if you can access the configuration of the switch.

Yes. Cat 6 is for 1000Mbps / 1Gbps, and is backwards compatible. It will simply default to port speed on unit.

Does the D-Link DES 1016D 16x10/100 Mbps Networking Switch accept either of strait-through or crossover cat 5e cable configuration to NICs?

Auto MDI/MDIX Crossover
All ports support auto-negotiating MDI/MDIX detection, which eliminates the need for crossover cables or uplink ports. The DES-1016D is the perfect choice for Plug-&-Play support for 10BASE-T and 100BASE-T networks.

Hope this helps.

Does d link des 1016d provides dynamis addresses to network printers?

Hi,
DLink DES 1016D is seems to be an Layer 2 unmanaged switch which can not provide IP addresses.
If this switch is connected with a router or a DHCP server then it can pass the IP address to any connected device.

Rashish

All 16 ports are not working

How are they not working?

Check to make sure it is plugged in. Also, try using a different Ethernet cable if you are using the same one to test all ports. If the problem is you are not getting a connection to the internet or something, make sure the router is plugged into the switch and that you have properly set up your network.
