I did a self clean on my tappan electric oven; cant get the door to open.... what can i do?

MaryAnn, If you try to push the locking lever/handle towards the "lock" position first, then pull it back towards the open position, it should unlock for you.

However if that doesn't work, you can turn off the breaker for the electric range, in most electric panels, it is marked as "Range" or "Stove" but is typically a double pole 50 Amp Breaker (It takes up 2 spaces). If you look at the handles of the breakers, you should be able to see the numbers "50" on the handle.

Once you turn off the power, you should be able to unlock the oven. Some ranges require that the power be on in order to unlock it, but first try to open it with the power turned off, and it that doesn't work, turn the breaker back on and the door should be able to be unlocked.

Remember that it will take a little bit of effort to get the door to unlock in some cases, so give it a good tug.

Hope you find this Very Helpful and best regards!

The oven and controls dont work but the stove is?

usually it is the element that blows or burns out turn off power to range at circuit breaker, open oven and check element for holes, power still turned off!! unscrew element from back of stove wall, this is easier if the oven door is removed, open door to first detente (stays open by itself a few inches in open position) grab door on either side (not by the handle it will break off) and lift upward, check if wire connections are good, if not repair the connection(s), do you have a volt meter, if not borrow one or buy a cheap one and check the voltage at the connections, make contact with the meters probes and isolate them from the oven's walls (use some electrical tape) turn on oven and then turn on power at circuit breaker if 220v is available then the element is bad, if you do not have 220v then the switch is bad or wire feeding the switch is bad

Handles fell off of the top oven door on maytag gemini glass top

Open the door a few inches, to the first hold-open stage. Lift the door upward & off the mounting bars. There will be screws along the bottom edge.

OVEN DOOR LIGHT SWITCH

These instructions apply to my GE Profile JBP90 but other brands and models are similar.

1. DISCONNECT THE UNIT FROM ITS ELECTRICAL POWER SOURCE!
CONFIRM POWER IS DISCONNECTED BY OBSERVING DISPLAY GOING DARK
In your case this may mean turning off the 220V double circuit breaker or unplugging the unit cord from its power outlet.
2. Open the oven door
3. Remove the two screws under the front edge of the stove cooktop on the far left and right
4. Gently raise the cooktop 4 or 5 inches and prop it open with a small cardboard box
5. Find the door switch wire and gently pull the switch connector off
6. Remove the switch by squeezing the two metal spring tabs toward the switch and pushing the switch out toward the front
7. Inspect the switch. If its like mine, it may look a little melted and smell burnt.
8. Find a new switch online or at your nearest parts distributer
http://www.appliancepartspros.com/partsearch/model.aspx?model_id=212235
9. Installation is the reverse of above steps.

Good Luck!

Convection oven fan continues to run even with door open and there is an electrical odor.

My JBP90 GE Profile convection oven had the same problem. The problem, in my case was caused by the door switch that controls the interior oven light. It also controls the convection fan and possibly the convection heating element.
