Roof Top A/C Throwing Main Breaker

I own a 2007 Rv with a DOMTIC A/C unit. It will throw the MAIN breaker after just a couple hours of use. I have checked the unit to make sure that there wasn't anything on the coils. The only other electrical appliances used during this time was a TV and power to Refrig. and Clock on Microwave. I would sure appreciate help. Thanks in advance.

Do you have an amp meter. when the main is tripped what is running? maybe the main breaker is going bad. I dont think you are pulling more than 20 amps when everything is running. not unless the fan on the A/C shorts to ground when it gets hot????

let me know

The air condition in my 2006 Lardo 5th wheel keeps throwing the breaker sometime it will run 15 minutes or 4 hours then throw the breaker

You could possibly have a weak set of breakers. If you have access to an amp meter, clamp around on of the wires coming from the breakers so that you can measure the amp draw. If the amp draw of the unit (when running) is lower than the breaker rating, change the breakers.
The other problem could be a stopped up rear coil. This is the part that looks like a small radiator the the hot air blows through on the roof. You will have to take the cover off the unit to see the inside of the coil. Look through the rear fan blade and you will be able to see if the condenser coil is stopped up wit dirt etc. Hope this helps.

Was working fine then just stopped runningm didn't slow down or make any noise just stopped like a fuse blew. Is there a reset button on main unit on roof

Hi, there are no reset buttons on the roof, but find the breaker panel in your RV, and you will find a breaker that is most likely tripped. You will need to reset it by turning it off and back on very firm. It should be about a 20 amp breaker. On the roof , there may also be a disconnect box with either a breaker or fuses also. Check the one inside the RV first, it is there somewhere. If it continues to trip the breaker, we will have to check to see if you have a problem with the compressor, condenser fan motor up top, and blower motor inside to see what is taking place. You may have a dirty coil up top that needs a good washing out as this will cause the unit to have high internal head pressures and will take out the compressor and keep tripping the breakers. Keep me posted on what you find and please don't forget to rate me as I know you will be kind. I will check back in with you on this to see how you are doing. It is 11:00p.m. here, so I will check on you in the a. m. This should solve your problem if you remove the top and make sure the condenser motor is running along with the compressor. Then kill the power again to wash this coil out. Please keep me posted.

No electrical power

You must find the reason the main breaker is popping ...

I'd start by unplugging everything and remove all breakers. Turn the main on ... does it pop? If it pops here look between the breaker panel and the end of your cord. Turn the power off - reinstall the first breaker - turn power back on. What happens ... keep doing this until the main or individual breaker pops - investigate that circuit to find your short.

If you get all breakers back in with out popping anything ... start plugging stuff back in. Something is shorting somewhere.

Let me know what you find please.

thanks

Throwing breaker

Throwing the MAIN BREAKER should not happen. Calculate the distance to your main box. Tell me the wire gauge or breaker amperage. Whatever you do, do not get a larger breaker! If its a breaker on this unit Its probably doa with current leak possibly. DO NOT USE fire hazzard IF SHE TRIPS!!! let me know if its your main breaker inthe house. Hopefully you dont have crappy cloth wiring.

Portable generator pops breaker when temp is over 75 degrees

I take it you have RV plugged into generator. Hopefully direct with no extension cords. Are you using a 30 to 15 amp adapter to plug into generator? What is the rating of the breaker on the generator that keeps tripping, suspect it's only 15 amp?

Duo-therm 13500 btu

First I would check the size of the power supply cord to the coach. To small a line will cause a voltage drop which in turn will cause the amperage to increase. Check the supply voltage to the system.
