Whirlpool Super capacity 465 electric range, has burnt bulb and we cannot get the cover off to change it.

I have the same problem. I hate to put a strap wrench on glass, but I may have to. I sprayed WD40 and I used a rubber anti-slip pad that you use to remove jar lids, and I have large strong hands, but no luck.

It just turns counterclockwise to come off. Sometimes it is very hard to turn them. If you have a strap wrench you could try that.

I sprayed some PB Blaster arond the base of the glass dome were it screws into the stove, tapped it gently with a wooden spoon several times to help work in the PB Blaster, and let it set about 10 minutes. I then took a rubber lid grabber and turned counter-clockwise and off it came. WD40 should work ok if you don't have PB Blaster.

It is REALLY hard to get off. It sounds like stuff is crunching in there and it took my like 2 hours to get it off. Hopefully it will be easier next time :)

I did not have a strap wrench, although Sears has a simple one for $4.99. I did however, have some radiator hose clamps left over from an auto repair job. I coupled two together and closed them so they fit over the glass, then gently tightened the combined clamp with a screwdriver until it no longer slipped. That gave my hand enough purchase to twist the glass off without problem.
A little WD-40 prior to this operation might also loosen any possible corrosion and can be wiped off after the glass is removed.

If you do not have astrap wrench then ask spouse friend to put their hand onto and turn anti clockwise. Cover will turn and come off.

Thanks for the hint.

How to change oven light

Which model Whirlpool range do you have? For most Whirlpool ranges that I have used , the oven light is covered by a screw-on glass cover. When the oven is cool, unplug the range, open the door and turn the cover counter-clockwise (to the left). Then remove the 40W bulb (again counter-clockwise rotation). Replace the bulb with another 40W appliance bulb. Then replace the cover by turning it clockwise until it is tight. Do not over-tighten either the bulb or the cover. Then plug in the power cord for the range. (Unplugging the unit makes sure that you will not get shocked if anything goes wrong. Sometimes the bulb may break in the socket - in that case, use pliers to unscrew the base of the bulb before replacing it with a new bulb.)

Whirlpool has the manuals for most of their appliances on their support site: .

I hope this helps.

How do you get the glass cover off to change the light bulb in the oven?

There is usually a snap on wire over the top of the light lens. Gently push down on that wire.

How do I change the light bulb in the oven

You can replace the light bulb(s) in your range/oven, though you may need to remove a glass covering or dome to reach it. Most interior oven lights use a universal 40 watt appliance bulb.

Can't get light bulb out of oven to replace it

Facing the head of the bulb...away from the base...turn it counterclockwise....that the left. If you like, use a rubber glove to protect your hands in case it shatters. Use a slight jerking motion to break it free.

Pry back the bulb glass cover wire spring and remove glass cover. Use heavy rubber gloves or a plastic bottle opener(piece of serrated soft plastic/rubber) and unscrew counterclockwise.
