Question about Sta Rite Sta-Rite Max-E-Therm High Effiency - Propane Heater - 333,000 BTU

1 Answer

When Heater is turned on display shows 125, doesn't ignite/fire.

I have a StaRite Pool Heater, I don't believe it is a E-Term. The unit is 4 years old. When I go turn it on the display shows 125/126. The unit does not ignite nor fire up. If I hold the SPA or POOL heat button, the display will show the pool temp but I can't change the desired temp. Do I have a mother board problem or a temperature sensor problem?

I am not sure if you have solved this issue, or not, but here is one idea. When you turn on the heater, it is reading the temp at 125/126 correct? IF this is what the heater is reading, then the problem is the Thermistor,or temp sensor, and is very easy to replace.

If you have an Owner's Manual, there are part numbers and instructions on how to replace the Thermistor. If you do not have one, follow the link below and it will take you to one online:

I have the same exact problem with this unit. Obviously getting gas to the unit, because it runs and pumps out some serious heat for a short time, but then kicks off. Did anyone ever figure this out or did you buy a new heater? :-)

What does error code r =8 at startup mean? Turned heater on for first time this year. Opened gas valve at tank and shut-off at heater. Pump is running. Turned 220 v breaker on in box and "spa on"...

Mike, I have found what I believe is the correct manual for your heater at http://www.pool-heaters.com/pdf/Pentair-Maxetherm_manual.pdf. I couldn't find an error code list in the manual but I might have missed it. If you call the the StaRite technical support line at 888-782-7483 they should be able to help youfigure this issue out. I hope this helps.
