Question about Hitachi 50V720 Television
I have a Hitachi model CMPAS14V. I have had no problem until this past week. I shut it off one night and it was working perfect. But when I turned it on the next morning, there was no picture(perfect sound) but absolute black screen, not even any scrolling or fuzz. I was told that it may be the lamp, but don't want to invest a lot of money on service calls for a 4 1/2year old tv (that I paid nearly $4,000 back then but could replace for less than a fourth of the price now). I've read many of the other questions and don't know if the lamp could be my problem? Is this something that a woman could do herself or should I just invest in the service calls or am I better off buying a new tv.? Help, please!

There is a power button on the front and a "main" power button underneath the front panel. Pushing the main power button should reset it.

Projection TV makers charge an arm and a leg for their replacement lamps. They make it easy to do but as a result the custom lamp assy is expensive. The trick is to just buy the bulb for your model TV from any number of us aftermarket sources at a fraction of the lamp price and install it in the old lamp yourself. really easy. Some models are real bulb hogs though. Look them up on the net (include the word complaint or repair) before you buy, or you might be sorry. Many class action lawsuits out there - even against some of the name brand makers.

I have the same model and had the same problem after replacing the lamp. Turns out if the cover plate is not put back on properly, tv will not power on and lamp ligth comes on. To solve the problem all I had to do is tighten the cover plate screw. Hope this helps.

I have one of these units, if the light is blinking and no picture as you have stated then you will need to replace the bulb in the unit. it is contained in the front of the unit behind the front panel on the right, you would remove the front panel after unplugging the unit, remove the single screw and pull out the box. replace it and then reverse the proces. the bulbs can be obtained for about $130.00 to $200.00 depending on where you get it from. Shop around.
