Magenta will not print!

Same problem as others - change cartridges to no effect. Is this a major flaw with this machine!?

Thanks, however there is nothing to indicate on the cartridges that they have expired. I have 2 sets which I refill myself to save expense, and all the colour ones came out of the same package - Its only the magenta which refuses to print (after countless 'cleaning')?

Check to see if your color cartridges have expiration dates on them. My HP did, and I had to replace the carts, and the print heads, too. The cost was amazing, at about $36.00 for each; 4 colors and 4 print heads, made it very expensive. I complained to HP about this hidden expiration date issue, and they were kind enough to replace my carts and print heads - one of each. I had originally bought more than one of each, to have them as spares, but didn't print that much to use them all up, so I ended up eating part of the cost, but HP was kind enough to help pay the costs to replace them.
See if this is not the reason you're not getting anything to print. Even though my carts were full, they did not print, due to the expiration dates.

It is possible that the expiration dates are the same as the "wear-out" dates, and they have to shut down at the same time as the wear-out dates.

FixYa most likely will not print the answer when the comments are similar to a response from a terrier most response. Similar to the replies from a terrorist, if most of those responses are from the terrorist.

What a shame that we cannot acknowledge the responses of our "cousins" in such a way, when those responses are as harmless as they are to others.

MFC-J430W will not recognize any new magenta cartridge!

When installing the cartridges, it is important that you insert them from left to right with the black cartridge first and the magenta cartridge last. The reason for this is because the magenta cartridge has a clip on top of it that goes into the cartridge door sensor. The clip needs to push the sensor in so the printer is able to function with the cartridge door open. If you insert the magenta cartridge first, the printer will think the cartridge door is closed and you will get a error message for the other missing cartridges.

HP All-In-One 4500 prints YELLOW when Black is SELECTED Could this be a PRINT HEAD PROBLEM?

Hi,
The inkjet printers print colors as they combine the major 4 colors contained in the cartridges CMYK (or said in words cyan, magenta, yellow and black) in some proportion.
If you print black the printer gets ink from the black cartridge only. If the black cartridge is empty some devices start to print black as a combination of the colors in the color cartridge - for example gets some of the cyan, gets some of the magenta, gets some of the yellow.
In your case maybe some of the other colors are empty too (or the nozzles are clogged) and the printer cannot prepare the correct mixture of colors to start printing black.
I suggest you to change both black and color cartridges.
Hope this helps.

The magenta cartridge isn't working correctly. This is why you're only getting the other colors (blue is cyan, green is cyan and yellow, and then yellow).

Try removing and reseating the magenta cartridge. If that doesn't work, use a new magenta cartridge (the cartridge itself may have been defective).

I wasn't able to view a manual for this machine, as it's been discontinued and Lexmark no longer offers the PDF on it. If you have a "clean print heads" option, use it. It may require more than one try. If you don't have that option, then all possibilities have been covered.

Hope that's helpful.

I have an HP C6180 printer that seems to be leaking ink inside the printer. I had not used the printer for a month or so whilst I was moving house, and changed all the cartridges as most of them were...

You could carefully clean this as follows:
put the printer on some newspaper to avoid further spills.
Turn on the printer, then open the lid to allow the carriage to move to the center.
Now unplug the printer, then gently move the carriage to the left and out of the way.
You should now have limited access to the spittoon area.
You can clean this area by carefully scooping out the ***** of ink with a plastic spoon. (Be careful not to drop ink sludge on your printer, desk, carpet or clothing.)
Once most of the ink has been removed then use a crumpled paper towel to soak up the ink in the bottom of the service station.
It may take several rounds of this to clean up the service station.
It is not necessary to completely clean the service station, just get the majority of the ink out.
Once this has been completed you could turn the printer up and clean the bottom area of the printer. Do not tip up the printer before the service station has been cleaned or you are likely to create a mess....

I do not have a magenta cartridge for the HP 4650 and i need to force it to black and white only to be able to continue to print. How do I do this?

It is not possible without a major printer BIOS change. Unless you are an expert electronics engineer you should not attempt it.
Better buy a magenta cartridge.

Hi there. The reason for your problem is that the colour cartridge contains cyan, magenta and yellow ink, plus a black cartridge of course. All the other myriad colours are produced by mixing these four basic colours. So, if you print red, it requires ink from both the magenta and yellow cartridges. Thus if your red produces a yellow print, it means your magenta is not printing. This can be due to a number of reasons, mainly an empty or faulty magenta cartridge or blocked magenta print nozzles.

If you wish me to help you with sorting out the lack of magenta, please post a new comment to this effect.

MFC 210c problem with Magenta ink

I had a similar problem with my black ink. The printer had indicated that it was out of black ink. I didn't have one on hand, so, for more than a week I couldn't print anything, because if you are out of any one of the four ink cartridges, it won't print at all. That delay in replacing the black ink cartridge apparently was enough time for the printhead to dry out. Big Mistake! I contacted Brother's Tech Support and they suggested I run the cleaning cycle and try to print a test page. Still nothing printed. They had me run another cleaning cycle, and another, and another. Finally, after the fourth cleaning cycle, something started to show up on the paper. They had me clean it two more times, six in all, and it was back to normal. From now on, if it says one of the ink cartridges is empty, I change it yesterday. The major disadvantage of all of this, other than not being able to print for awhile, is that this procedure used up about 1/2 of a brand new black ink cartridge.

My magenta will not print well

Here's what you should do. Remove all ink cartridges. Get some rubbing alcohol, preferrably 91% proof (leaves less moisture) Get a couple normal paper towels. Check each cartridge for dried ink and remove it using an alcohol wetted paper towel. (The deep cleaning procedures aren't always effective.) The gold contacts on each cartridge should be gold when you are done. Use the same procedure on the gold contacts of the ink cartridge housing inside the printer. Take your time, do it well. If that does not fix the problem, then do the following. Switch the black and magenta cartridge. Some printers won't print when you do this, other printers don't know the difference. If your printer is the later, then attempt a print job using a page that has a line of both black and magenta text. If you see a black print, then the problem is your magenta cartridge (despite having installed a new one) If the magenta prints, then you know the magenta cartridge is good. If the magenta prints but the black doesn't, then you have a printer failure. Let me know your results. ZT3000 Beta tester of "0"s and "1's"
