Question about Heating & Cooling

1 Answer

I have a CAPF4860C6AA air cond. I emailed your tech about a problem I have but I sent it in under the wrong model. My unit doesn't cool properly. It stopped working recently. The out side fan was working but the in side one wasn't. I shut it off for about 12 hours after which I changed the air filter and cleaned the overflow unit(pump). I turned it on and it worked but not cooling right. It's freezing or something to the touch on the outer cabinet. I recieved an email from you but I wasn't sure we are talking about the same unit. I'm talking about an air conditioner. plez hlp!!

May I suggest? or ask, can you feel air being pulled into the front of the unit? If so, you may have a baffle or shutter misdirecting the air flow and it is not being channeled through the vent outlets into the room. The unit may need to be slipped out of the cabinet to see what is out of place and corrected. Make sure all the vents are openon the room side.. Also, the outside coils should be warm or hot, if so, the unit is working fine. Your 1 ac won't stop global warming so get the cool air into the house., teasing.:) Good luck

I BOUGHT A USED HOME APPROXIMATELY 1000 SQ. FT. IT

quantity of gas alone does not make for cold air
to understand that it is necessary to understand how an air conditioner or fridge works ( ac, car ac , fridges , freezers etc all work on the same principle)
Simply put it is a heat transfer device where the heat of a room is transferred to outside the room
IT does this by allowing an extremely volatile liquid to evaporate ( being boiled off by heat in the room)
the gas is then collected by a compressor and recompressed back to a liquid
this process releases the heat back outside by the condenser and so the process is repeated until the amount of heat in the room reaches the temp set at the thermostat
Basic I know but it is sufficient to know that there is more than gas at work
if the compressor is inefficient ( worn , faulty etc) it cannot compress the gas properly and so instead of releasing liquid at the evaporator , it will be releasing gas which is not boiling off and removing heat
next is the thermostat
it controls the TX valve that regulates the amount of liquid that is allowed to enter the evaporator to collect the heat to be removed
next there is the condenser
if the fan is not working it will not remove the heat from that unit and so the compressor cannot do the job as it goes into over pressure and shuts down
Good advice is to get a second opinion from an accredited service technician, preferably a carrier service technician that has the technical knowledge of the make to be able to properly diagnose and test each component of the system
every system is repairable if the parts are available but the deciding factor is the repair cost against the energy saving costs and parts availability of a new unit so get quotes and then decide the action to take

My air conditionner is not working properly. It sends cool aire keep getting code E3 What can I do to fix it Tks

micheline, according to the LG Owner's Manual for the Model Number you listed, there is no LED display on the casement window unit (please see the Owner's Manual link below). How are you getting an E3 error code? Or by chance, did you list the wrong model number? Even Goldstar, that is made by LG, doesn't show your model number.

Please advise. Thanks.

We're having exactly the same problem. I called ICM at 1-800-382-3113 and asked for tech support and they emailed the 2-page manual right away. I talked to Eric Wood, an Electrical Engineer there, and he sent it immediately. I hope this helps!

Unit turns on,compressor runs, evap and cond clean, fan runs, will not blow cool

two things that may be the problem. 1. there may be a clog in the metering device in the unit preventing the freon from ciculating through the unit. The repair for this is to evacuate the freon from the unit and have the meter ing valve replaced (an a/c tech can do this for a minimal charge). 2. the unit is low enough on freon to prevent cooling but not cause the compressor to go into thermal overload.
I would have the freon level checked before I went any further

Good luck hope this helped

Goodman CAPF4860C6AA not cooling properly

It sounds like it needs to be charged. What you need to do is shut the system down for 24 hours in order to let the unit thaw. Then if you are not EPA certified, you need to have a repair tech come out and charge your system. That should be it unless you have a leak in the lines.

Window air cond unit, several years old, doesn't blow as cold

The problem with window units and any service tech will tell you it cost more to repair than you can buy at Walmart or home depot. Unless you know someone who can charge it for you. Window units are a sore subject. A 200 dollar window unit might cost 200 dollars to charge system. SORRy rusty

Wont cool

1. try cleaning the condenser it's gotta to have some dirt.

(if it looks clogged, turn the unit off and spray the condenser with a water hose!) it should throw out some dirt

if you did step 1 and still no cooling suspect a small refrigerant leak.

most of the times if its r-134a, i go down to autozone and buy a stop leak for r-134a and charge it into system.

also if theres a refrigerant leak,i'd get a tech to check and correct leak (if he finds it) but that's worse case scenario :) I'd go with dirty condenser.... email me at hvac.tech7872pr@gmail.com if you need more info.
