If this is the problem I am having with my tv. Do you think its worth fixing or should I give it up. I hate to spend much on the tv. But, I also hate to buy a new tv. I think this tv's picture(when working) is really good. I actually prefer it to the lcd upstairs. Thanks for your thoughts.

  • Darin Hamilton Aug 21, 2009

thanks for the advice. Where are the fuses located and what do they look like? Thanks so much for your advice.

  • Darin Hamilton Aug 21, 2009

could the STK392-570 prevent the tv from powering up? when I plug in the tv, it sounds like it is working. But it doesnt power up when I press the power buttom. One of the STK392-570 solder is loose and pretty sure one of the point looks a little burnt. Thanks you so much for the excellent advice.

I have very little lubricant or grease on the ic's. What can I use to grease them up or will they be fine? Thanks..

  • Darin Hamilton Aug 22, 2009

ok, i resoldering the ic's and it sound like it should come on. But, I still get nothing. Any new suggestions before I order 2 new ic's?

  • Darin Hamilton Aug 23, 2009

removed the ic's and still no power. What do you recommend next?

  • Darin Hamilton Aug 24, 2009

what color would the substance look like on the boards? I do see some whitish compound on it. The same stuff i put of the ic's. Also, I am looking at another mits 65" and the guy says, The sound works and no picture. What do you think might be the problem with it? Thanks for all of your advice.

I dont see any signs of coolant leakage. What might I check now?

Does the led blink a two digit blink code when you press the menu and device/input buttons both in together for 6 seconds? If so let me know the two digit blink code and i will assist you.

Does the power led light up when you press power? If it does and you still get no error code, then that means the microprocessor isnt operating, So I would suspect one of the low voltage regulators or possibly a diode which is preventing the set from powering up

I would suspect one of the fuses may be blown since you get no power indicator light what so ever. Check the fuses one or more may be blown

They are located on the board located on the far right looking in the rear of the set. They are just small Glass axial fuses.

Yes the STK392-570 can definately prevent the set from working and if its loose that may very well be the problem as the IC could be shorted due to its being loose.

Radio shack part #276-1372 its 1.29 per tube its called silicone base Heat sink

I would try removing both the ICs then try powering up the set. With the ICs removed the set should power up if the ICs are the cause of the set being dead.

If that doesnt let the set power up. The next thing I would check is to see if you can see any sign of CRT coolant that may have dripped onto the boards as that is a very common fault as well in that model. The CRT coolant may appear as a stickly pasty substance on the boards a strong flashlight held on a angle will usually show signs of coolant leakage.

Its colorless its appears as a sticky pasty residule. If a mitsubishi has sound but no picture its a vertical failure most likely. The vertical IC may need to be simply resoldered.

you would need to check the stand by voltages to see if any of them are not as specified in the service manual for your model, as it may be a low voltage regulator that isnt operating properly.

I have a Mitsubishi ws-65809, the tv won't power

I presume you unplugged the set and redid the check:

2,3 is deflection circuit problem (probably in Horizontal sweep circuit) and can be almost anything---check output transistors and look for cracked or bad cap in that area.

The error code is only a general indication of the kind of problem and this one is like saying car will not start etc.

I have a Mitsubishi ws-65809 when i turn it on it shuts down after 2 seconds, i held the input and menu buttons in and it gave me cod 2-3 was wondering what could be the problem, and if it is an easy fix...

Error code 23 means "Loss of Horizontal Deflection" that means horizontal section of TV is not working. Cause can be horizontal out transistor is short or not getting +B volts from power supply.
If you understand schematic, I can email you complete repair manual of Mitsubishi WS-65809 that will help you to diagnose problem by measuring volts and checking parts.
Thanks.

If your TV is not powering on you probably blew the power supply. These TV are sensitive to power surges. Be sure to use a power strip with power filtering technology (different from a surge protector) costing around $80.00
