Question about Christie Vivid LX20 Multimedia Projector

1 Answer

I have a green blob in the middle of my screen with faint horizontal stripes underneath. I've tried adjusting the green balance all the way to zero and had no change. It makes the blacks look green and is visible beneath the whites.

The polarizer on one of the lcd panels is fried due to excessive dust and heat. you'll need to replace it, or the whole optical engine.

What could have gone wrong with my Emerson flat screen tv that would cause

You could have a Power supply problem or either the Horizontal or Vertical Control amps are faulty. If you are not Electronically capable or trained, rather take it to an expert as the removal of these two Power Modules is one hell of a job to remove and you could damage the circuit boards and Printed circuit.
If I am correct, in your case the Power modules are STK975-811A as they are commonly used in flat screen TV's.

I've accuired a Vizio P50HDTV10A that was dropped.

Yes, do not bother as it sounds like the display panel is damaged--time for a new set parts cost wise. Since you have nothing to lose open and examine it with the faint hope a plug is loose or off or a board cracked,,,faint chance only.

This system has a VGA port so you can plug in an external monitor. You can buy one for less than $130 based on the Sunday ads. Other than that, it is new laptop time.

You have a completely different problem. The screen voltage for the blue picture tube is slightly too high on your set. This will put fine lines in the background of the picture, called retrace lines. This is very common and easy to correct. Remove the front speaker cover and the access panel behind it. Look inside and you will see a black box with six controls, each control having a little white glue on it. This is the Focus/Screen block. Three controls are labeled Focus and three are labeled Screen. The screen control in the center is for green but I am not sure if the screen control on the left or right is for blue for your model. With the TV on, set it to VIDEO 1 but do not connect anything to the VIDEO 1 jacks. This will produce a pure dark picture, showing any faint lines in the background. Choose one of the screen controls and increase (turn clockwise) it slightly. If the blue lines do not get brighter it means you are turning the red screen control, so put it back where it was and choose the other screen control. When you find the blue screen control, decrease (turn counter-clockwise) it until just when the blue lines are gone. If you want you can check that the red and green screen controls are set to just below the point where their faint lines are visible. When done, replace the panels and your picture will be back to perfect.

MikeNJ1964 was exactly right! I have a Sony KP-65WV600 that had horizontal green lines that showed when the picture was darker. I had to remove 3 screws on the right and left side of the tv holding in the speakers...carefully pop out the middle panel from the clips holding it in....remove 4 screws from the cardboard in the middle and remove the cardboard. I then saw the six screws. The adjustment screws were the three below. I turned the middle screw until the lines dissapeared. I tried the left screw and blue lines appeared which I then adjusted away.
THANKS a bunch. SAVED me money!!!

Thin red line question continued

they are marked "R", "G", "B" the "G" is in the middle. they are hard to see because it is imprinted in the molded plastic. also the words "screen" and "focus" are imprinted use a flashlight to see them. on most of these focus blocks the screen controls are the ones closest to the mounting screws. blue is to the right green in the middle and red to the left but not all of these are the same so check them before you turn them. the white blob is a type of glue to keep the posts from being turned and is a good referance point to get back to the same spot if you have gone too far with the adjustment.turn them carefully with a screw driver to brake the glue.then make your adjustment if this does not cure your problem you will need to replace the block have a tach do this ( critical white balance adjustment and picture tube voltages).

Color Problems

I know this contribution might be late, but try to avoid using the auto white balance. Use a tungsten mode and test each of its compensations until you get the desired result. I haven't had a similar problem on the 14n, but my D100 always places a magenta cast on white when shooting auto WB. I learned how to adapt the other WB modes to any situation.
