About the Whirlpool washer model 8525146-A: After looking the machine over, I now have a new question. The out of balance may have to do with the fact that four height adjusters have over time made the washer not level. (And yes being out of balance comes a loud thumping). The clicking noise seems to be associated with the agitator is loose. After pulling the top off and the cap underneath I can see the agitation gear mechanism but not sure how to assess the area, i.e., tighten it?

Try to tighten it. Can a friend help you to balance the wash machine? You could put small pieces of plywood under the knobs at the bottom.

SOURCE: loose agitator on Whirlpool Ultima Care II washer

it could have stripped the spline on the plastic agitator. there is a bolt at the middle of the agitator and you can access that thru the top . remove the top cover and you can remove the bolt using a deep socket.

once you remove the agitator you can look at the dog agitator. these a 4 pcs plastics that works like a one way wrench.

be careful on the location, they are very hard to put back.

check also the spline on the inner part of the plastic assembly.

they do get stripped.

if they are, replace the whole agitator.

tnx 4 using fixya,

SOURCE: The agitator seems loose on

Use a 1/4 inch nut driver to tighten the set screw to the agitator shaft. It is about 3 inches up from the bottom of the agitator on the side of the agitator.

Older and making more noise....

There are four "balance" wheel type devices that hold the tub/drum centered. They wear down and become uneven causing sounds and other things to happen! Go to sears web page for parts. Look for the Counter weights and shock absorber here:http://www.searspartsdirect.com/partsdirect/part-model/Whirlpool-Parts/Washer-Parts/Model-GHW9150PW1/1198/0153200/W0512128/00005?blt=06&prst=&shdMod=

Have you checked to make sure the supports are OK? Is your washer making loud noises during spinning? If so, the basket drive may be broke.

My Whirlpool front load washer is out of balance when spinning. It makes a loud noise. How do I get the tub back in balance? GHW9200LQ is the model.

Hi,
Whirlpool front load washers have shock absorbers that helps them in moving the washer around the place. Due to regular usage of the washer it may tend to break. This will result in drum hammering sound . To clear this problem pull the bottom front off and check the shocks. Typically the rings where the pins go through are where they will break. You have to grab them and should have a complete check by moving them to see that whether they are broken.
Thank you !!

My washer is out of balance when spinning.

Hi,
Your problem is probably much more than the washer being out of balance. The front load washers have shock absorbers that hold them from moving all over the place. These have a habit of breaking. Then the drum hammers and sounds like things are flying apart. Pull the bottom front off and check the shocks. Typically the rings where the pins go throuhg are where they will break. Sometimes at first they look okay and you have to grab them and move them to see that they are broken.

I hope that this will help you to solve your problem!

Thanks for using Fixya!!

My Whirlpool duet washer lights flash/beep

probably your door then, look at the door itself, at the latch is it broken? should form a complete square hole with four sides. if broken some part is probably inside lock asm. if complete, look at lock and determine if its in the lock position with door open, a arm will be up preventing the latch from going in. replace as necessary. Old duets (red lights) use standard lock asm same as GE and samsung. New duets (green lights) use whirlpool/new maytag unique asm. New locks come in two interchageable models, German (made in china) and Mexican, Mexican model is more troublesome, get german.
If lights flash during a cycle or other time, its giving a code, note the F code displayed
