If it smells like plastic being burned, then it must have been some piece of the laptop had a short circuit. Find out if its from the motherboard or just some wires shortage. If its in the system/hardware then it must be replaced. You have a big problem with your laptop.

I suppose either your processor or the voltage regulator( smps) should have burst. i suppose you should prefer to change the whole motherboard...
this generally happens if there is a short circuit in the line and if the supply system is unprotected(without circuit breakers).

Sounds like you blew a capacitor on your motherboard. If its not under warranty, replacement of the board will be $$$. Check laptopparts.com for replacement boards, and good luck.

You might just get sticker shock and find out that its cheaper to buy a new one. Your data is probably still safe and recoverable.

HI, this was a mother board meltdown. you will need to either purchase another mother board to install in your unit or, just cut your loss and, buy a new unit.

Dont even try to turn it on now. it may further damage the system. get it urgently to HP service centre and handle them ur laptop and tell them everything about the issue. i hope much of hardware damage had not been done.
Hope it will help!!!!

The mouse works, but the keyboard doesn't. I cannot type anything.

Simple way to confirm if it is actually a laptop keyboard failure. Plug in a USB desktop keyboard and let the drivers load. If the USB keyboard works then you have confirmed the laptop keyboard failure. Either that you can go to "start"- "all programs"-"accessories"-"ease of access" then choose "on screen keyboard". You are using Win7 I presume?

The keyboard quit workihg

Plug in an external usb keybaord and check to see if it works. This will make sure there is nothing wrong with the laptop and just the laptop keyboard.

If this works then this means that your laptop keyboard has been disconnected from the laptop. remove your keyboard from the laptop and check to see if the connection has been damaged or removed. Unplug the connection, plug it back in and test.

Please rate if this helps.

Thanks

The notebook is on and all is okay except that when I try and type - nothing happens!! What should I do to restore the keyboard? I have an Acer Model NAV50. Thank you.

Sounds like your computer is looking for an external keyboard. If your mouse works go to Control panel and go to Keyboard and click internal keyboard.

My keyboard does no work properly, the keys, t,y, bakspace, caps lock, shift, tab and fn, won't work all the timne, sometimes they do yesterday 4 example, but today nothing, i've tried safe mode, upgrade...

There is not so much that could be done to repair a keyboard. Disassemble the laptop, check the ribbon cable connecting the keyboard to the motherboard. If the ribbon cable is loose, tighten it. If it is tight, replace the keyboard with a new one.

Sticky FN Key problem

Hello there:
Laptop keyboards are notorious for sticking after time due to small particles of dirt or oils from our skin and if you smoke believe it or not smoke from a cigarette is very bad on keyboards and computers in general.
What you can do to try to solve this problem is to get a can of canned air then turn off the laptop and dissconnect the power cord then
get a very small flat tip screw driver and CAREFULLY pry off the faulty key pad then take a q tip and some rubbing alcohol and wipe the area that it connects to .
Now take the canned air and spray down the entire keyboard and let sit for 10 minutes then replace the key pad and then replace the power cord and turn on the laptop and see if this now will work ok
Please keep me posted on how this is going
Best regards Michael

Have you tried the connect button underneath the keyboard? Sometimes they get out of sync.

You will have to press the sync button on the stand first and then press the sync button on the keyboard. Good Luck

try having your laptop checked by a competent technician... there might be an obstruction in your keyboard (like dust) which causes the key to stuck and have it cleaned
