Question about Computers & Internet
For the last couple of weeks my PC (put together by someone else) just switches itself off, every couple of days. Last night I had a scare as I couldn't turn it back on again for hours.
One suggestion I had was to reload the drivers. I have a disc with motherboard, graphics, audio, etc drivers. Should I reload this. If so, can you direct me as to how this is done? I've never done that before.
This is my first time on Fixya. I hope you can help.
It doesn't sound like a driver problem to me. It sounds like your hard drive is failing. If you had a problem with the drivers, your system would not know how to access the hard drive effeciently or your computer might seem sluggish or slow. Occasionally the computer may turn off unexpectedly but you would ba able to restart it immediately. Although you should consider the drivers as a potential possible solution and reinstall them, do not be surprised if you may need a new hard drive. To install your drivers, you can go to control panel>system and click on the hardware tab at the top of the screen. Click the device manager button adn see if there are any warning icons next to any devices. If there are no triangles with an exclamation point, then you have the drivers installed and presumably functioning correctly. You can always reinstall each driver by clicking on, say, disk drives, finding the drive you wish to reinstall the driver, then click on it to open it's properties. Click on the driver tab at the top of the screen, and click on the update driver button. Direct it to the disk the drivers are on and press OK. It will find the correct driver on the disk and install it. Do this for ezch subsequent device.

Sounds to me like your computer is over heating, I would take off the side panel and then start the computer and watch the fans on the cpu, the power supply, and the case. I would bet one of them is not turning and it is over heating.
