Question about LG LHD45EL Dehumidifier

1 Answer

My LHD45ELT8 LG humidifier does not keep up with the moisture in the air. It did at first when it was purchased last year but now I set my % at 35 but the air remains at 65%. Is there a problem with it being on all the time or do I have some sort of filter that needs cleaning? I can't locate my manual and the LG site doesn't have my model number in their listings. Thanks in advance for any advice or tips you may have. M. Moore arbemoore@msn.com

A dehumidifier works like a low powered air conditioner where a fan draws air through a refrigeration unit which cools it and condenses water vapour and collects it in a container.

There is likely to be at least one air filter so some cleaning of the air takes place and such filter(s) will need attention periodically and in addition most manufacturers claim their products need servicing every 3 years.

Best results will be obtained when the room is closed and ventilation minimal and the capacity of the machine is more than adequate for the space where it is sited. A room with an open window or where the door is opened frequently is not really a suitable site for a dehumidifier.
It is important to choose a machine that is somewhat too large as efficiency will fall between service intervals.

It is quite possible a manual for a different but similar model by the same manufacturer will provide some useful information...

SOURCE: no water is collecting on 2 year old lg humidifier

If when you turn your dehumidifier on the compressor runs then you should get moisture. Dehumidifiers work on the same principal as refrigeration. There is a bad control switch or the compressor start relay or capacitor is defective. If compressor runs and there is no effect then that is another problem. The filter should come out the front where the air goes in front and the filter should be washed by hand in warm degrease detergent water, dry and replace. If the disposable type filter I will help you contact LG.Thanks, Sea Breeze

SOURCE: I have the same model LG Dehumidiier with the exact same issue.

Your unit is still under one year old, and is thus still under factory warranty. This is exactly why you have a factory warranty. Use it. If you are in the USA, you can find a service provider at http://www.lge.com/us/support/repair/support-repair-provider-lookup.jsp

Bring a copy of your sales receipt to the service center to establish proof of date of purchase.

Short on refrigerant... or a failed compressor. are most likely or a system problem, causing it to trip off.

There may also be a failed electrical component, you need to check for voltage at the compressor.

Hello,

If you've emptied the tank and the unit doesn't run, inspect the place where the tank rests to see if there's a switch or mechanism that's not being activated. You may be able to turn it on with a simple flick of your finger.

Take care.

My LG Humidifier turns on and seems to run fine for a few minutes then the present humidity % starts going up and up all the way to high then the whole thing shuts down. Of course it does not run long...

Chef, you need to turn the Master ON/OFF Switch to OFF and unplug the unit from the wall outlet for 15 minutes. While you're waiting, remove the air intake filter and clean it, if necessary. After the 15 minutes has elapsed, plug the unit in, turn the Master ON/OFF Switch to ON and set the control to Manual Operation. Lower the humidity extraction level to 32% or 35% and allow the unit to run in that mode, rather than automatic. This will give you a good indication if moisture is being extracted or not.

If it is working as it should, you can leave it in manual timed mode (normally 2 or 4 hour segments). This way, cycle On and OFF as necessary, based on any rise in humidity above 35%.

I hope this helped you solve the problem. Please let me know. Thank you.

My LG Dehumidfier 3850A20500H has stopped pulling moisture from the air it still runs but no wataer in the bucket what could be the problem? this starts happening after 1 year of purchase.

There are several things that can cause the problem you described. Most of which are easily remedied.

1. The humidity/moisture extraction level is set to high. Lower it to 35%

2, Air intake filter is dirty or clogged. Remove and clean the filter.

3. Refrigerant coils on the back of the unit are dirty and need to be cleaned.

4. Not enough clear air space around the unit. Maintain at least a minimum of 12" of clear air space all around the unit.

5. Unit is operating in a room that has an ambient air temperature at floor level, of between 40 -60 degrees F. Most dehumidifiers don't work well between those temperatures. Raise the unit up off the floor on to something sturdy enough for the weight of the dehumidifier when the bucket is full.

The above are the top 5 things that can cause a dehumidifier not to work properly. Fortunately, none of the solutions require any major repair to the unit.

Hope this helped you to further troubleshoot and solve the problem.

My dehumidifier is not collecting water what can i do to fix it? the model #99701

There are several reasons this may be happening. The 2 primary reasons are the humidity extraction level is set to high. Lower it to 35% . The lower the setting, the more moisture/humidity is extracted from the air. The higher the setting, the less if any moisture/humidity will be extracted from the air.
On most humidifiers the fan runs almost constantly while in operation. The idea is to continually move the air around and when the unit senses a rise in humidity, above what you have it set on, the compressor will turn ON to extract that humidity.

The 2nd thing that causes the problem is a dirty of clogged intake air filter. Which is easily solved by removing and cleaning the filter. Which should be done at least every 2 weeks, while the dehumidifier is in operation.

I said there were 2 primary reasons. Actually, there is a 3rd. Not enough clear air space all around the dehumidifier. A minimum of 12" should be maintained during operation.

Hope this helped you to troubleshoot and solve the problem. Please let me know. Thanks.

Unit is not pulling any moisture. I took off the cover and removed all the lint buildup on the coils and filter and it still doesn't work.

So far, you've completed all the right tings, that I would have suggested. Now, take a look at the humidity setting on the dehumidifier. If it's set high (above 65%) there's not much chance that the unit will collect any humidity. It simply is just maintaining what it's set on. Lowering the setting to 35% will have a much better affect in removing the humidity/moisture.

There is an in home test you can do, to make sure the unit is working properly. Place the dehumidifier in the center of a bathroom and turn the shower ON hot enough to generate steam. Turn the humidifier ON and Set the level at 35%. Do Not turn the bathroom's exhaust fan ON or leave a window open in the bathroom. As you exit the bathroom, close the door and wait 15 to 20 minutes before returning. After entering the bathroom, turn the shower OFF and allow the unit to run for 5 more minutes. Then check the bucket for signs of water. If you find any, the unit is working as it should. Also. the dehumidifier, when in operation should have a minimum of 2 feet of clear air space around it. The fans on many units run almost constantly, to recirculate the air and if any increase in humidity is sensed, the compressor will turn ON. This is particularly true, if you operate it in continuous mode, rather than a timed mode. Also, be sure that all exterior doors and windows are closed when the unit is in operation.

If after doing the in home test, the bucket did not show any signs of water, either the humidity sensor has failed and needs to be replaced or the compressor needs to be recharged with refrigerant. If you don't feel comfortable trying to repair the unit yourself, the following is a link that will help you locate an authorized LG Repair Center in your area.

http://www.lg.com/us/support/repair/support-repair-provider-lookup.jsp

Find out what the cost to repair the unit will be, before committing to it. As your model has been discontinued and it may be less expensive to but a new unit. Hope this helped you. Please let me know.

A dehumidifier does not need water in the tank.It takes humidity out of the air and the moisture goes into the bucket. A humidifier has to have water in the tank.Note ,a humidifier puts moisture in the air, and a dehumidifier takes the moisture takes moisture out of the air.

I NEED TO KNOW WHAT PERCENTAGE MEANS ON A DE-HUMIDIFIER

In plain English, the Percentage setting on your de-humidifier is the percentage of moisture that you want to maintain in the air. Relative humidity level range from about 10% (VERY dry air) to almost 100% (VERY damp air). When relative humidity is 100%, water vapor in the air will turn into rain, condensation, dew, snow or frost. 50% humidity is usually a comfortable level, but that will also depend on air temperature. The more moisture there is in the air, the warmer it feels and conversely. Warm air will hold more moisture than cooler air.

Your body is cooled when moisture on your skin evaporates into the air, carrying body heat with it. As the humidity in the air rises, less of your body moisture is able to evaporate and thus your body feels wamer. Lower humidty allows moisture from your body to evaporate more quickly and you feel cooler, both at the exact same temperature.
