Cleaning the screen on the muffler will help but the muffler itself is what needs burned out. This can be done with a fire or a torch. Let the muffler cool on it's own as use of water can warp it. Parts can usually be purchased at any small engine repair shop that represents Mtd. That's who make the weed eater.
