Question about Garmin eTrex Legend Cx GPS Receiver
I have two Garmin eTrex Legends, and both have done this -- one after about 10 minutes of being one (almost like clockwork), the other only does it rarely. Exactly as original poster said, you can do nothing unless you remove a battery and put it back in.
Is the unit being bumped during use? If not, sounds like a call to Garmin tech support is in the works. My thought is that it's something defective inside your unit.
