Question about Plumbing
I have an outside hose bib that is leaking. I just moved into my house so I can't tell you mutch about the plumbing. I noticed that when I turn on the water I could hear what sounded like water spraying against the wall inside the house. I put a hose on the bib and blocked the end and I noticed that there was water running out of an opening in the brick about 1 foot to the right of the hose bib. I removed the screws that hold the valve in place on the wall and pulled the pipe out about 2 inches. Again I turned the water on with the end of the hose blocked. Water ran out of the opening in the wall where the pipe comes through. It only does this when the valve on the bib is open. If I close the vale, all the water stops. I do not see a leak where the valve is connected to the copper pipe coming out of the wall. If the pipe had a hole in it, wouldn't it leak all the time? I am confused as to where the leak is and why it only leaks when the bib valve is open. Any advice would be appreciated.
Ok this is an easy one. you have what is called a frost free hose bib. this is split or has a hole in it after the seat. the seat is inside the house wall. you need to cut off the copper inside the house and replace the valve . if it is not a solder joint than have someone hold back on the copper on the inside and you should be able to spin it off and replace it. P.S if this is the case make sure you use T-tape on the threaded conection
