Just a comment on the first answer: Use only silver oxide batteries (SR44). Using lithium batteries will not harm your camera but they have an unstable voltage, they start off a little over 1.5v and drift down to around 1.35v just before they no longer work. They are fine for non-precision equipment but not for your camera as they can cause the lightmeter to be as much as four stops out.

SR44's are at the correct 1.55v and remain at that level almost until the very end. They cost a bit more than lithium cells but are well worth the money, just make sure that the packaging actually says "silver oxide" as some manufacturers put the SR44 number on the packaging of LR44 lithium cells.

The Nikon FG is an analogue SLR camera, and they generally take batteries you could find in any camera store in the old days. If you can't find a battery in your camera store, try a store that has a lot of low cost batteries (typically stores for people who like to fix stuff). From a specifications page on this camera:
Two 1.55V silver-oxide batteries (S-76 or SR-44 type), two 1.5V alkaline-manganese batteries (LR-44 type) or one 3V lithium battery (CR-I 3N type)

Battery power?

Are you using the same type of batteries as the ones you used when the camera actually worked in the past?

Hi, Can I use rechargeable lithium-ion batteries in my Fuji S1730 camera. Thank you. Roy.

Hi Roy,

If your camera uses normal AA or AAA batteries you will have no problems with the rechargeable batteries. If you are considering to buy rechargeable batteries always try to buy the higher mAh range batteries. The higher the mAh the longer battery power will last.

Camera won't work

I don't know if this is the model number the book doesn't state what it is, but I was told the battery is re-chargeable. I didn't receive a battery charger for this battery. What type of charger would I need to re-charge the battery and where can I find the charger??? Walmarts, Best Buy, Circuit City, or any electronic store in Georgia? I will try this first to see if the battery drained. When plugged in it will come on but I can see anything on the flip screen. Thanks Sonja Mack

Does it use battery only or charger

It depends on the Model of the camera. Few camera's do have that function and few don't.

However, most models do not have this feature as this would require a built in charge circuit, which would complicate the design and definitely increase the size of the camera. Even large cameras don't (usually) have built in charging circuits.

The thing to remember is that in order to charge the battery you must have the same voltage as the original charger. USB ports only supply 5volts... typically at 500mah or less. If your camera does not allow for the battery to be charged in the camera then it won't matter because you will need an external charger.

Be careful about he type of external charger you buy because lithium batteries are dangerous if charged incorrectly.

Let me know, if needed further assistance.

Hope i helped you.

Thanks for using ' Fixya ' and have a nice day!!

Battery life is poor or fails to charge sufficiently

You can try other lithium batteries. If no luck and your camera is over 3 years old you may just have to buy a new one. The old ones cost as much or more to repair than the price of a new one. Then you could try Amazon for new/refurbished/used ones. I use Consumer Reports to get ratings on all products I buy. You may want to try that.
