Which fuse did you check? There will be one at the head unit, one inside the cars fuse block and one underneath the hood in the fuse block by the battery.

Apparently, you have no power at the 12 volt battery/memory wire at the radio harness of the vehicle. This wire is white with blue in color.
Also, based upon your description, you have connected the battery/memory wire and the accessory wire of the radio to the 12 volt accessory (switched) wire of the vehicle. This wire is white with red in color.
Check the radio/ stereo fuse of the car. You may have blown the fuse during your installation.
You have no memory at the radio because when you turn off the key, you lose all power to the radio.
Also, I mentioned the wire colors just in case you used an aftermarket radio wiring harness. Make sure that the yellow from the Pioneer unit is going to the battery power source and, the red of the Pioneer is going to the switched power source.

I have a 1998 Pioneer head unit to put in my car. the #is 1256237179. Is There anyway to get a diagram to see how to hook it up?

Hi there,

Well you can please follow the below steps -
1. Disconnect your car battery. It is vitally important to your safety that you never work on any type of electronic in your car with the battery still connected, as this puts you at risk for electrocution.
2. Remove the old stereo by taking off all the dashboard panels surrounding your stereo, sliding out your old stereo head unit, and unplugging all the wires that are connected to the head unit. Discard the old stereo.
3. Take your Pioneer car stereo head unit and plug each of the positive wires from your car speakers to the positive terminals on the head unit. Take all of the negative speaker wires and connect them to the negative terminals on the head unit.
4. Attach the stereo's black ground wire to a metal bolt or screw located near where the stereo is mounted in the dash.
5. Connect all of the ignition power wires to your Pioneer stereo.
6. Take the harness connector and plug it into your car stereo. Now plug the antenna into the back of your head unit.
7. Slide the stereo back into the dash, screw it in place, and replace the dashboard pieces you removed earlier.
8. Reconnect your car battery, turn the car on and test out your new Pioneer car stereo. Please post comments for more help or information..........

Good Luck!!

Thanks

Amp not staying on

Hello lyttle_matt1,

Connect a DC voltmeter between the "remote" (+) terminal and the "ground" (-) terminal on the amp. When you turn on your Pioneer, you should read 12-14V. If you get voltage for a second and then it goes away, either the incorrect wire from the head unit is connected, or the head unit remote turn-on is defective. If the voltage remains on the terminal and the amp immediately turns back off, it's possible that the remote turn-on is not supplying adequate current for the amp. To determine if that is the case, run a separate wire from a positive (+) accessory terminal (cigarette lighter or fuse box) to the amp remote terminal. If the amp then turns on and stays on, you'll need to wire a relay into the turn-on wire. The wiring for such a relay is shown here. Most any 12V SPST or SPDT relay from an auto parts store or Radio Shack will work OK.

Infinity Reference Amps stay illuminated

Hello shaymus_hoos,

No, it isn't supposed to work that way. Although amps are usually wired with the positive directly to the vehicle battery, they aren't supposed to turn on unless power is supplied on the remote wire.

The problem is most likely in either the head unit or one of the amps. And if not corrected, the amps will sooner or later, completely drain the battery.

First see if it works properly with just one amp connected. Remove the remote turn-on from 1 amp at a time and test with the vehicle and head unit off and then on. If the problem is still there with just one amp connected, either the head unit is at fault or the remote wire is picking up 12V somewhere along it's path to the amps. Make sure you have it connected to the right wire on the Kenwood. Every Kenwood I've seen uses blue/white for the remote wire.

If both amps work OK separately, one of the amps is causing the problem. You may be able to correct it by using a relay to electrically separate the turn-on signal for each amp. You'll need a "double-throw, single-throw" type of relay. Here's a link to the Basic Car Audio Electronics web site that details the connections http://www.bcae1.com/. Connect the remote wire coming from the head unit to one side of the relay coil and ground the other side. Bring 12V positive from an "accessory" lead that is hot only when the ignition is in either the "ON" or "ACCESSORY" positions to one side of both sets of relay contacts (it doesn't matter which side). Connect the other sides of the relay contacts, one to each amp turn-on connector.

Hope this helps.

Check to be sure you are on the correct outputs on the head unit, and be sure the outputs do not have a separate volume control.

I have a VSX Pioneer. Somewhere either in the back of the rfeceiver or one of the speakers there is an errant wire touching the frame. Check the back of the receiver ald all of the speaker connections. The message is to protect the speaker, but can tke out a channel on the receiver if not corrected.
