Question about Gateway PLSM42TV 42 in. HD-Ready Plasma Television
We've had this for 6 years. Within the last 6 months or so, we'll be watching and the screen will go black and we cannot power it off. In the past it's been resolved by unplugging it, letting it sit for 1/2 hour, and then plugging back in and that has worked to reset it. However... now the reset isn't working and we cannot get a picture at all. We don't even get the mode in the top corner (TV, DVI, Component 1, etc.)
The other strange thing is that when we hit the power button to turn it off, it doesn't power down but instead changes the input (TV, DVI, Component 1, etc.)
Did that work for the person with the question?

There is a problem with cracked solder on the y sustain power lead leading to the y sustain board. You can fix it if you are handy with soldering. 4 out of 5 pins on mine had cracked solder allowing arching.
