There's usually a belt that drives it, probably broken or stretched beyond useful. If you're comfortable opening up the unit, go find it and replace. Identify part from drawing for your model (Google) and order replacement online.
OR, buy a wind-up turntable made for microwaves. Good luck!

SOURCE: need to replace turntable model no. MW8995W

I have the same problem. Emerson gave me the name of a parts company (Fox International 1-800-321-6993) and they can supply a replacement when it comes off of backorder (anywhere from two to twelve weeks).

My microwave turntable stopped turning but the microwave still heats up and works, otherwise.

You didn't say what model microwave you have, but most that I have seen have two separate circuits inside. One operates the magnetron (which makes the microwaves) and the other operates the other things like the turntable or the inside light etc.. It is quite possible that you have a problem in that second circuit. This allows the heating without the turning. To fix this type of problem, if indeed that is the case, requires some skillful trouble shooting inside the microwave which I don't recommend your try unless you are a skilled technician, because of dangerous voltages. Go ahead and post the brand and model number and I can be more specific as to what action to take.

Microwave turntable stopped turning. Can I fix this?

The turntable motor will need to be replaced, this type of repair is tricky not to mention the lethal voltages it carries. I strongly recommend a professional for this job.

I have a gold star above range microwave, mvh1615ww, man. in Sept. 2006, the turntable is not turning, any quick fixes?

Try the TURNTABLE ON/OFF pad. Touch this pad to turn off the turntable or turn it back on. “OFF” will appear in the display when the turntable is turned off.

Do you mean MV1615?

If so, we have the service manual for this model and have uploaded it to our site here to help you. You will need the free Adobe Reader to view or print it.

You may need a new turntable motor or coupler.

Turntable will not turn on Microwave

It's usually probably a failed turntable motor, but you should double-check the coupler, too.

We actually have the complete service & repair manual for this model at our site: http://www.microwavedisplay.cm/r930ak_aw_sm.pdf

You can order a new motor via Tritronics at http://www.wehaveparts.com
