Check ink u163 error message

Firstly I suspect you are not using genuine cartridge or you have refilled the cartridge.
To fix this you need to disable the ink checking procedure.

Do you know that low ink or ink has run out message appears once cartridge empty. If you want to use refill ink in that cartridge then you need to deactivate ink level to get your printer run as usual. Check the following tips to fix low ink error message in case of refill ink usage. Below some methods to deactivate ink level detection function for some models due to its similarity.
METHOD I:
Press RESUME/CANCEL button once

Hold down RESUME/CANCEL button for 5 seconds or more

METHOD III:
Press START button once, select COLOR button for colour cartridge; BLACK button for black cartridge

METHOD IV:
Hold down STOP/RESET button for 5 seconds or more

Applicable models:
Latest models of Pixma MP/MX series: MP145,228,245,520,800,850,970,MX308,318,7600,et

Thanks, I had to hold it down until it printed off the page we wanted to test print. we refilled our cannon cartridges.
It does say our cartridges are empty, but at least its working.

Another way to clear the error message:
1. Disconnect the power cable
2. Connect it while holding down the power button
3. With the power button still down, press twice the "Cancel/Stop" red button
4. Release the power button
5. The printes turns into a kind of factory mode...(wait for about 10 seconds, utils it says "Idle")
6. Press the ">" (next to the "OK" button) once."Shipping Mode 3"
7. Press the "OK" button.
8. Press "OK" again for "Without cleaning"
9. A test page will print..
10. Open the cover, like you are about to change the cartridges.
11. Disconnect the power cable again.
12. Take out both cartridges.
13. Close the cover.
14. Connect the power cable once again.
15. Turn the printer on.
16. Now just put the cartridges back...
 
On my Mx308, the printer does not print the test page and stop. I just press cancel and pull out the plug and put it back. The it works.
