This may well be worse than you think!

I would suspect that the SIIRF chip or whichever chip is installed is damaged. This is common in many GPS It is not recommended to have them connected at the time of engine starting. An inline fuse must be used on hot wire to help prevent spiking if hard wired
If it is running on DC battery power the I would say battery is too low to recfeive satellites or that it does not have a clear view of the sky.
Usaing an external mouse type antenna usually gets a signal quickly providing it is positioned outside of vehicle with a good ground plane supplied ( center of bonnet or roof)
They should work in any car, they are not car specific. RESET button will not help if chip is damaged. Many second hand ones on ebay are there because they failed, they appear to work well because the screen lights up but they dont always connect!

I did forget one aspect and i apologise for this. Check that the PORT is set to the correct outgoing and the BAUDate also is set to the correct value. Check the manual

My garmin quest 2 gps will not connect with satelites It loses its signal way too often.

I have seen this before. The flip up antenna connection tends to be a bit fragile and eventually will break the connector away from the antenna circuit board. It is a fairly easy fix if you are handy with a small soldering iron. I have personally repaired quite a few of these units. If not, Garmin will probably want $100-150 flat rate repair for about 15 minutes of work. A work around on this is to get a small "patch" antenna with a cable. Put the antenna on the dash and route the cable to the back of the unit and it should work fine. Just make certain if you buy an external antenna, you get the proper connector. There are lots of these antennas on Ebay.

Pioneer avic-f700bt wont power on at all.. the battery was changed . How do i reset it ?

it is possible that it was damaged during the battery replacement.
one thing you can still try is to hard-reset it. the reset button is left of the eject button. press it for 30 seconds. if that fails - contact the repair center

I have used the Gpsmap 178c for about 3 years now. Recently I have started be unable to find satelites, wass on or off. Once in a while it works. presently I get no satelites I would buy a new antenna...

Based on the problems I have seen with this unit the problem is the reciever circuit not the antenna, so you should consider a new unit, Garmin charges a fortune to repair these.

Garmin 330 wont locate satellites in van only.

Do you have a heat reflecting windscreen? These are a total barrier to GPS signals. It may be getting the odd satellite through the side windows if you have such a windscreen. An external antenna, such as the ones supplied by, would be ideal but you need to have an external antenna socket on the GPS. Not many car units have this feature. Another option is to try a re-radiating antenna but I've not seen these for ages - bought my last ones from

I cant figure out how to get my gps on i can get cd player and dvd to work just not gps i bought used and i just need to know how to hook this all up

You would need to hook up all of the system accessory. Especially the gps antenna for the gps to work. I you dont have it it, you might be able to find everything on Ebay. Goodluck.

Garmin Nuvi 760 loses satelite reception. Tried to reset to factory settings and still having problem.

You may need to buy an additional external GPS receiving antenna. I did for my 750.
Because we love our electronics so tiny, they use an internal antenna. The gold input on the back of it, is for an external antenna available for under $20 from ebay. I used it when I lost reception in NYC, and also in rural areas. The external one has q magnet on it, and you can put it on the roof and have the cord come in your window to the unit (better than arm out window!)

check here - where i bought mine

Enjoy, NGK
